Size of sofa throw

What would you say is a good size, without being a full blown quilt, for a throw for the sofa that the guys can get under in the winter watching tv? What works best for you?

I like 55-ish wide by 70-ish long. When I make a quilt it never has a deliberate size in mind. It will be what it will be when I am done.

Many of my quilts are what I call lap sized, but all are different. They generally run about 50 x 60.

I like about 48 x 72. Big enough to go from nose and cover the toes!

For a largish adult - at least 60 inches wide - 80 inches long.

I like to be covered from over my toes to over my shoulders.

This is assuming that one falls asleep on the couch and forgets to get up and go to bed.

I usually make them in the 60" x 70" range.

Hey, this is my way also!

I make mine 72x72 (or thereabouts!). I call them "nap quilts" and I nap under mine every chance I get! That's big enough for one person to nap under, or two people to snuggle under for movie time.

It also depends on what size of blocks or pattern you are making. Usually 72" in length is good for guys.

I've been making what i call "couch quilts" for a couple of years as wedding gifts....i am usually in the 50-56 x 70-76 inch range depending on the blocks i've chosen.

I like 60x72 ish. Big enough to quilt on my DSM without feeling like I'm wresting an elephant.

misseva 09-10-2014 11:14 AM

I just made a large throw and it was 54" x 72".

Lafpeaches 09-10-2014 01:19 PM

Usually 60x80. My husband is 6'5". I have 4 boys height ranging from 6' to 6'7". I try to make lap sized quilts long enough.

Make it easy on yourself. Have one of them lay on the couch and cover up with anything handy. Measure from the top edge under their chins to a few inches under their feet.

At least that is how I want my cover ups to fit.
And at least 4' wide.

If it's meant to be a sofa throw I like to make them 70 to 80 inches long but no more then 60 inches wide. I figure most people want to be covered with enough quilt so that their feet don't stick out when they move. Most of the quilt I make end up being twin to full size. Once in a while I make a queen size but only when I know who I will be giving it to. Usually then end up being whatever size I have enough material for. I rarely plan, usually go at it with no forethought whatsoever.
