I was given some thread several years ago and would like to know if I can use it with my DSM. They are cones. One is Mettler Metrolock, superfine polyester coned thread. At the top of the cone it has numbers, Art.1015 No. 150, col 703.
The other cone has a label inside that says Threads USA, Gastonia,ND, 882421DX 661150, ONCORE< cotton wrap polyester 50, 6000 yds.,then 5486, 1378.
I must have been given 35 spools and I would like to use it if it will not mess my machine up. Thread is so expensive today. Why waste?
I think the person that gave it to me said the second kind was used to embroider bowling shirts.

Also, soes anyone know about the numbers inside other cone threads where the size says TEX###. How do these sizes translate into our thread weights? Is there a chart that converts the sizes?

Too many acronyms! What's a "DSM"? Mettler is pretty good thread so I wouldn't worry about that one but I've not heard of "Threads USA". Google it and see what you come up with.

DSM - domestic sewing machine

that is serger thread! you can use it for anything you like...if using poly is something you want to use on cotton fabric.
Depending on your machine, it might make a ton of lint though and you will have clean the bobbin area out often.
it is also thicker, though you said 50, so maybe it is thin...you might have to adjust your needle size to match the thread size.

as long as the thread is strong (doesn't break when you tug on a length) it is fine to use.
for cones with your domestic machine you probably need some sort of holder for the thread cone- there are a few on the market from quite simple-fairly inexpensive- to fancy- quite expensive.
i use a box- that a tall travel cup came in- i just drop the cone in the box- set it beside/behind the machine bring the thread up & thread as usual- works well for me-
i've heard of people using tins, bowls, what ever will work to hold the cone upright so the thread feeds off the cone the way it should.
