sizing french braid quilt

I want to make a french braid quilt about 12 in wider, after already planning on adding additional border. The pattern has 5 braids - has anyone ever enlarged by just adding 1 extra braid, making it at even number of braids? Do the quilt police ban that????

ha! just thumb your nose at the quilt police ;-) sounds like a good solution to me.

Go ahead. Add a braid or two or three. We won't tell. Not anyone's business what you do with your work. Really, it's not. There are some really beautifully made french braid quilts online. Several have 6 braids. Here's one with 8!

I like it with more braids. :)

Just add an extra braid, no problem with the quilt police! Not only that but you are the designer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's a perfect solution! It will probably look better with an extra braid strip than it would with wider or extra borders. :)

i make them all the time with the number of braids i want- to achieve the size i want---never thought about it being (a problem) with anyone....anyone looking at the quilt is going to believe it is EXACTLY as it's supposed to be...since you are the one making it-EXACTLY as you want it to be. French Braids are one of my all time favorites because i can so easily adapt them to what ever my need- i make french braid table runners, up to california king bed quilts and everything in between- just by adding more braids, more fabrics in the run, wide & narrow braids...it is a *sky's the limit* type of versatile pattern.

The quilt is yours not the quilt police or anyone else's. make what you want and like "rules are made to be broken" as long as they hurt nobody. I love the idea of odd numbers , you could do them opposite ways..
