Skipped section on Long Arm quilted quilt

Hello--so I sent a quilt top off to be long arm quilted from edge to edge. I mailed it off as I live 3 hours from the closest dedicated quilt shop that has Long Arm services. I just got it back and there is one section that the thread skipped quite a bit. I am wondering if I can find a thread similar to the thread they used and go carefully back over the section with hand stitching cutting and tying off the section that is skipped. It is big enough that you could get a finger stuck. The back looks fine, so something happened on the top thread. I do plan on calling about it--but it is for my Mother for her birthday next week so I need to figure out a fix. Any ideas would be appreciated.--Thanks

Remember to take photos of those bad stitches. I don't know what the quilting pattern is. But I have used my domestic machine to replace stitches that broke on one of my earlier quilts. I meander so it was not that hard to do. Good Luck. Sorry it happened to you.

You can either do it by hand or by machine, depending on how big the unquilted section is and which technique you're more comfortable with. If you're concerned about the holes made by the original stitching, washing the quilt will take care of that.

Well I tried to upload some pics but the computer gremlins are out. It is a flower pattern. The quilting pattern has a large flower and a smaller flower and a connecting swirl. Each flower has 8 petals. Upon closer look 2 petals are missing form this skip. Not sure what happened. It is not in the direct middle of the quilt but not an edge either. It is in an area that is busy so it is not noticeable that the petals are missing, but I would like to tie off the string if possible. I will try to upload a pic.

remember that word UPLOAD. it hides off to the right lower of your screen. must hit that for photo to show. Good luck.

Quiltwoman44-----Yes--I know the word thank you. It indicated an error uploading message. I will check the image size and try uploading again. Regardless of a lack of photo, I was looking for help with tying off the 1 inch of skipped stitch thread.

Make 3 -4 knots as close as you can all together then back that heavy knot back into the quilt. That should tie it off. I am hopefully understanding your question.

If the thread is laying on the fabric you can connect the top and bottom thread by hand. I have done it when my FMQ stitches are longer then I like. Tedious but doable. I thread a hand needle and mimic the stitch by going through the sandwich beside the top and bobbin thread, I knot and slip the needle through the sandwich and do another connecting stitch the correct distance from the first and so on. Good Luck!

I have done it by hand several times taking stitches to hold the thread down on one side and then the other.

Yes - all the suggestions are great and all are quite doable but - imho .....you should contact the shop. They should pay for the return shipping and make it right. You have paid good money for their service and they have not delivered. If this is a time sensitive thing then do what you need to do but provide them with pics and demand a some sort of refund on their services. The fact that is is the top thread tells me that whoever ran the machine did not bother to look at the quilt before advancing. I can almost forgive bottom tension issues (I have had these myself and they are easy to miss while the quilt is on the frame) but top tension issues can easily be seen Good luck and sorry they were so careless.
