Ok so I think my machine is skipping stitches it looks good for a little while then they get crappy looking and the the bobbin starts showing through the top and then they are ok again. Is this from the needle or something else?

it could be a blunt needle. did you try a new one? is the bobbin loose in the bobbin case? plastic in plastic, metal in metal.
are they actually skipping or just not getting the right tension? try tightening the lower tension. if the problem is on the top, the fix is on the bottom. vice versa. |
If you use plastic bobbins check them for burrs. They come on new ones, they also develop from use. I run my fingers along the edges, if I find one I use my finger nail file to smooth them out  It doesn't take much of one on my machines to throw off the stitching.

I will check both those things, I am not sure if it is skipping stitches because I am sooooo new I dont know what that even looks like lol! But I have tried adjusting the tension and it still keeps doing it.

always try rethreading the top thread and removing the bobbin and reinserting. gremlins sometimes cause trouble and these things help.

Do your stitches on the bottom look ok?

You might want to check your needle size too. I was having trouble with skipped stitches and had to use a little larger needle.

Looks like that was the problem, I also cleaned out the bobbin area (only have done one quilt, but wow the amount of lint in thier!). Thanks for all the help everyone!

Happy to hear that all is working right now :D:D:D
|
Yeah......glad to hear you got it fixed.

Sometimes my bobbin doesn't wind right and it does what you're describing. Take your bobbin out and pull on the thread. Does it stay tight or does it pull funny? If it doesn't stay tight it hasn't wound right.
