Skipped stitchs
 
What could cause my Brother 1500s to Skip stitchs, while FMQ? I have cleaned, oiled, changed needle and rethreaded.

Try a different thread? Could be a finish on the fabric, or the weave? Try a different fabric sample. Is the bobbin threaded correctly? Sometimes you THINK you hear the click when you thread it. Turn off the machine and walk away for a while. That has worked for me before, believe it or not! It usually turns out to be the simplest things.

If the machine sew fine on regular sewing then it can be a number of things. The thread is not catching the bobbin thread because.....you are moving the fabric too quickly, there is some resistance in the fabric surface (batiks), the needle is dull or not inserted correctly and is not piercing the fabric quick enough, the spool thread path is hung up on something, and last but not least, the timing could be off on your machine(repair shop)
There are other cause but that's all I can think of right now.

Tartan is correct. You could be moving the fabric too fast. You should know the speed you are at (by the hum it makes) and be able to move the fabric at the same speed your DSM would feed it thru under the needle. Remember that batiks are a denser cotton than normal quilting fabric.

That happens when I'm using the wrong needle for the fabric.

Thanks everyone for the quick answers. I may need to Chill Out and give it one more try. I hope its not out of time, I had a broken needle from hitting a thick corner. I changed to Top Stitch needles after that. Its better after the type of needle change, but still happens some.

I stopped getting skipped stitches when I switched to a larger needle. My 1500 was on a frame and I found that a size 16 needle was best for that setup.
