Skipping stitches
 

My long-arm machine started skipping stitches after I oiled it. I changed needles, thread, bobbin, re-threaded the machine, it doesn't seem to be hanging on anything.checked for lint and fuzz and I have even cleaned the wheels on carriage and cleaned track. The skipping seems to happen going to the right side in a loop where there is a seam. My seams are pressed and nothing I can find that should cause this.Do you have any more suggestions.Thank you.

My first thought would be that the needle is not seated exactly as it should be. It would probably help to identify the brand and model of your machine, as different machines have different quirks including how the needle is seated.

you should call Chuck Bailey... he's told me several times when I've been in the shop... he likes his customers to call and he solves many issues over the phone.

What kind of material is it? You might try a smaller size needle. That happened to me once when I was quilting a quilt made with Batiks. The smalle needle solved the problem of the skipped stitches.

Thank you QuiltNan and Aborning I did call Chuck and he said to be sure to oil behind bobbin shuttle,on the back side, which I did again.I still have big skipped places.The only thing I have not done is a smaller needle, I am sewing cotton and one of my pieces and the backing is the same fabric, it is a tone on tone white but the print seems to have a thicker fill (it is a quilt shop fabric). Chuck said the size 16 needles I am using was great for this. But I will try a 14 tomorrow. Thank you all again.

Are you sure it is just skipping stitches--or is it actually the horizontal stitch regulator encoder that has gone bad? My first long arm machine had troubles with the horizontal stitch encoder going bad. I had it replaced 3 times during the one year that I had that machine.

I have started to wonder about the senors, checked and cleaned them,But that doesn't mean anything I know. the stitch regulator appears to be working(I have tested this as much as I can).I am going to re-wind my bobbins they do not look right, I have been winding them on a different machine not the quilting machine,I do not know if this is the problem but... I spoke with Chuck yesterday He said to call him anytime so in the morning I will try the newly wound bobbins and then see. Aborning ,Thank you so much for all your suggestions, I am hoping the stitch encoders are not out they sound like that would be expensive.

A poorly wound bobbin can cause skipping, I think. Hope you have found the problem!

BINGO, Prism99 that was the problem.I changed the bobbin 4 times,but I had wound all 4 at the same time and all 4 were bad, so I put the bobbins back on my sidewinder and re-wound them.Works perfect now. Thank you all so much.
