During a project in which I was sewing a faux leather bag, I found I had to go up to a size 16 needle and sew very slowly. Sometimes I even turned the wheel by hand to ensure those stitches were caught.

I have slowed down the speed here too, I find it helps a lot with the stitches skipping. With the larger needle and going slow it is somewhat better. Thanks for all of the comments everyone.
