I have made this wall hanging and it is ready to be binded and have a sleeve or tab on it. This is my first wall hanging and not sure what to use the sleeve or the tab? It is about 33 x 41 inches. And should I sew it on when I sew the binding. I was wanting to do stitch in the ditch for the binding. I have been reading on making sleeves but still need your help.

Yes, My granddaughter is into Tinkerbell. Her room is filled with Tinkerbell. So when I seen this panel I knew I needed to make her a wallhanging.

I'm no help either on the subject at hand but I, too, love your wall hanging! It's beautiful, your grand daughter is going to be thrilled!

I'm not real sure, but I don't think it would matter if you used the sleeve or tabs. I sewed mine on with the binding then hand stitched the bottom down.

What did you use? And if you used tabs, what size did you make them? And how many would you put across there?

My suggestion is to think about how your daughter will want it hung on the wall....and to try the tab look with 4 even spaced, 3 inch finish across it before you sew. Then if you pin them on, without any sewing, hang it on the wall, and see which you think will make it stand out.

What are you binding it with? I like tabs sometimes and sleeves at others it always depends on where it's going to hang and what the center picture is like. Your tinker bell is gorgeous.

I rather think I'd like the sleeve better on your beautiful work here, both for ease of hanging and because you could use one of the little seen colors to ribbon tie it to the dowel and hang it.

Thank you. I am binding with the same as the backing. Now would I make a sleeve with the same material? And making the sleeve how big would I make that?

I have only made sleeves. I use muslin and make the sleeve a little bit shorter than the quilt so some of the dowel is exposed. It needs to be wide enough to accommodate the dowel and allow the quilt to hang smoothly.

When I make sleeves I cut a piece of fabric (either the same as the backing or contrast - whatever I have the most of or look I want) that's 6" wide by the width of the wall hanging. Then cut it in half & hem the short ends of both pieces. Fold in half along the long side. This gives you two pieces that are 3" wide and slightly shorter than the quilt back. Position these strips so the hemmed edge is about a 1/2 " from the edge (there will be a space in the middle). Sew that along the same seam as the binding was sewn (be careful at the corners that you don't catch the mitre ). After the binding is hand stitched down (as usual), take the folded long edge of the sleeve and press the top part back about 1/4" then stitch down. This will give a space for a slat to go into the sleeve. Get a slat and put one of those multi-position things used to hang pictures and nail it to the slat. This will give you a few different hanging positions to get it hanging straight. You can do the same for the bottom with just a continuous sleeve and slip a slat in that, too if you want to weight it down a bit. I've not had any problems with this method and it really is easier than reading what I wrote . :wink:
