slip mat

How many of you use one of those silicone slip mats for FMQ? does it really seem to help and where is the best place to find them?

For me there is a definite difference with the silicone mat. If I forget to put on the machine and start to use my rulers or FMQ it feels like I can barely move the quilt, the same if I forget to put on my gloves. A lot of quilters use polish (Turtle Wax is option I have seen) or buy the silicone roll up snow sliders that can be bought on Amazon. I have both Supreme Slider and Sew Steady Grid slider mat that I was able to get on sale.

I use an inexpensive (like $10) silicone coated/nonstick oven liner that I cut a hole in at the needle location - maybe 1/4" by 1/2" hole. I tape it down to my sewing cabinet using blue painter's tape, which needs to be replaced every so often, but it works well for me.

Is that the kind that you use to line cookie sheets? That sounds like a good idea.

No, the kind you put on the bottom of an oven to make cleanup easier. There are various brands. Here's one from WallyWorld Nonstick oven liner

You do need to tape them down since, being non-stick, they like to slide around.

She came to one of ourguild meetings and gave us all kinds of tips and this is one of them. after our meeting I went to the local dollar store and picked up 2 - Great price and they work really well!

I bought one years ago . It would not stay in place. Not sure what I did with it.

I love my Supreme Slider. If I forget to place it on I can't move anything!

I also use the non stick oven liner taped down. I have the Supreme Slider and Sew Steady Grid slider mat, but I like the oven liner the best.
