slippery table issue - solved
 

I sew on my dining room table. It's a large oval and I have my machine at the end of one of the long sides so the quilt I'm working on can rest on the table. Problem has been that the table is so slick I have to fight to keep the quilt on it. Today I moved a cutting mat right next to my machine - it's a smaller one I don't use often because I have a large one opposite my machine on the other long side of the table. Then I moved a stool to my left. The mat keeps the quilt from sliding off the table and the stool supports the part that hangs over. When I'm not using it I slide the stool under the table - out of the way and ready for a grand boy to visit while I sew. I'm a happy camper. The Issue of the Sliding Quilt has bugged me for over a YEAR!

mat idea sounds great...try putting your adjustable ironing board next to your left instead of the stool... it is larger and can be put at the same height as your dining table. mat might help on the ironing board, as well...I have more than one ironing board and often sew in the 'U' I can create with them...

Thought about the ironing board - read about that on here - but I'm pretty close to the wall - my back to the wall with just a bit behind me. If I use the ironing board I have to move it to get away from the sewing machine. THe stool fits so easily under the table I thought that would work. But .. haven't quilted anything in this setup - just added borders to a large lap size and that's already better. When I go to quilt something I may pull that ironing board out anyway, even if it's close quarters.
