Sliver Quilts
 

I bought the book, SLIVER QUILTS, by Lisa O'Neill, about a year ago. However, I've yet to tackle a sliver quilt. Has anyone else every made one? I think that they're absolutely gorgeous and I love the dimensional effect, as well as the visual. How hard was this quilt to make?

I haven't heard of this book or this technique. Will be interesting to see the photos that are posted. Being disable, I have to stick with the simple patterns.

I think that they're cool. Their artsy, but not really, "art quilts," per se. I'd definitely put one on my bed. I'm going to have to try one block and see how it goes.

oh my gosh-that looks hard!! I strive to use as big of pieces as I can. lol. I could see myself pulling my hair out doing a sliver quilt but they look really cool!

I have the book, have made many of the blocks to use in borders or other areas of a quilt...they are not difficult! in fact quite easy- and the results are terrific! I love these. I will have to see if I can find pictures of some of the blocks I've made- I used a black with stunning deep red for the slivers- they are WOW! jump in & play---they really are easy- and once you start your mind will go crazy with ideas to use this technique!

just found the picture- the outer border blocks are sliver blocks from that book.

Well, the sliver technique certainly produces amazing quilts....I would like to have a try...but I don't think my skills are advanced enough. Thanks for starting this thread. Will definitely be learning more when I have some spare time.

Read the slivers are cut on diagonal.. That would mean bias, right? Why? Interesting, maybe someday just as a challenge or to do something a bit different. Btw, read the little blurb in the first site listed above...kvetched! Really now, some people just want praise all the time....poor baby!

I don't think that the sliver method is all that challenging. It just looks it. She folds the fabrics and inserts them into the block, so there aren't a lot of tiny pieces to have to sew. It's a really interesting technique. A sliver quilt is on my list...my very long list...LOL.
