I've still got one from my MIL. She taught me real dressmaking - she made coats with interlining and satin linings and all the Vogue patterns. I kept hers but I haven't figured out how to use it for quilting - one of the little press and cut pads is better. But it was great for making clothing and -in the old days, ironing!

I used mine all the time when I made American Girl and Bitty Baby doll clothes. Also on small quilt blocks before I got an ironing board that fits over the closet door.

I have two sleeve boards and use one of them all the time. One is always 'ready' beside me when piecing a quilt top. I have it sitting on a small table beside me while I'm sitting at the SM. I'll stitch a bit then press a bit in the construction part. One is always set up on my assembly table where I lay out my quilt pieces. I seldom use my regular sized ironing boards other than when pressing things as they come out of the dryer - if needed. The sleeve boards are so handy to be used anywhere I might be working.

I have one that is with my regular ironing board and I use it on occasion but not for quilting purposes. It is attached to my larger board. I bought a wooden TV tray table and put batting and fabric and stapled it to it's top and I use that for the small ironing of pieces. It works great, when it get yucky, pull out the staples and replace the fabric wala...new board.

You know I hadn't used my clapper in years and the other day had some seams that didn't want to play nice. I used the clapper and now will be using it all the time :-) . Sometimes use a small tack hammer on a reluctant seam joining, too. I learned that trick when sewing denim jeans for my kids years ago.

I am guessing that no one does tailoring anymore -- sewing with wool, I think it is essential.

I've still got mine because I still, very occasionally, do some garment sewing but I've never found a use for it in quilting. Maybe if you were quilting a bag or something?

I use my 'roll thing' (what do they call them?) for seams. Makes them nice and flat.

I have a wall insert fall down ironing board, (folds up into the wall and has a door that hides it ) and above it in the cavity is a sleeve ironing board. Some times jacket sleeves get wrinkled and I don't want to pay for an entire cleaning bill for the whole jacket...it stays up with a piece of 2 inch elastic, which suggests to me that it was did not come with the ironing board.

I have one, that I used a lot while sewing my blocks, so I didn't need to get my regular big board out.As it stays out for days and days when I'm quilting:roll: .
But then I discovered the sewingboard in Ikea that is inbetween the small and the regular board...and now I use that one all the time

I wish I had one, for making bags, and will buy one if I see one at a yard sale. I have a small ironing board I keep on my chest for small stuff, but it's just not small enough.

Lately I keep thinking about a REALLY USELESS ITEM, lol. Anyone ever use curtain stretcher? My grandmother used to have me help her put the curtains on the stretchers with her. Oh, how many times I stuck myself on those tacks. And I keep thinking about those things lately. Maybe I am getting senile....or wistful?

How about pant hangers? You know the ones you put inside the legs so the pants dried with a crease.

i have all my tailoring pressing things because i still garment sew. if you have space for it and already own something, then why not keep it? after all, you don't have to feed it. :lol:

I use mine when I have a block that has many interlocking seams and I need to seam them into submission without steaming the rest of the block. Also, when I need to press a seam open for easier quilting.

Can't imagine any other reason to use one.

I can't think of many uses in quilting, but I use it almost any time I sew a garment.

I use mine very often... I also do garment sewing and it comes in very handy for pressing seams on sleeves and collars and etc. My sweet daddy hand made me one for my birthday in 1981 and it's beautiful and I treasure it. My DH made me an 18"x18" board that sits over the top of my antique ironing board for pressing quilt blocks or applique' blocks...fortunately, all I have to do with DH is suggest I would like to have such and such and it he can build it out of wood, he does...LOL He's a treasure and took up where my daddy left off. The next thing I want is the rotating circle (lazy-susan type) cutting board...I think it's in the works now!

I use mine once in awhile.I purchased a tiny iron from walmart craft section and its perfect for that iron

I only use my wooden sleeves when making pants legs, cuffs, or sleeves.

My last mini board broke after umpteen years and I never replaced it. Last week DH brought home this gem left behind by a tenant. I used it today and knew right away I will have to replace the batting with heavier and sew a new top. Otherwise it is a great little table. Legs bend down to store.

I use mine a lot. Have been working on small projects and it takes up little space on my work table. Also like it for pressing binding strips as well as garment ironing.

I have one of them but have never used it. I think if you were making miniature quilts that it would be quite handy, it would be able to sit on your desk/table and you wouldn't even have to get up to press.

I use the sleeve hams instead. They are great for ironing seams open because the material naturally opens without any puckering or such. Mine is under my cutting table or next to the ironing board.

Oh, I never though of using it for making bags! I have one that is two sided; a sleeve side and a pant leg size(?), I suppose. It belonged to my dear Aunt Jessie who made all my school clothes until I learned to sew and then promptly told me to make them myself from now on! I was mad at the time but it forced me to develop my skills and I will always be grateful for that. It's got to be at least my age (58-5/6 y.o.)

I'll certainly use it more now!
