Could you guys use the real words the first time you mention something in your posts?
And then if you need to mention it again, THEN abbreviate. I know what BOM means so you could say Block of Month and then say BOM rather than repeating the entire words. It is annoying to try to find out what the meaning of something is before you can understand what the person is talking about. Pretty Please? |
You can also do a search for abbreviations to find out what they mean. The search feature is at the top of the page.

You will get use to the abbreviations ...just makes things go faster.

When in Rome...............

Here is a link that can help you. I don't know them all either.
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-62926-1.htm#1537945 Hope this helps. |
The searching is what's annoying.
I know I'm in Rome, but I gotta figure out how to get everywhere. I have already got some of 'em down pat so I will get them figured out in time. If I can quilt, I can figure this board out too. Thanks for the website too. |
Some people print off the list of abbreviations and keep it by the computer for reference until they are comfortable with using them. That might help you!
|
Ha, the language of quilting! This too shall come naturally.
|
I understand and I am with you 100% -
|
I know what you mean. just skip what you can't figure out. that's what i'm going to do in future.
|

It was the same for me when I first came to this site but it has been kind of fun discovering all the meanings, they have my DH really amused, I get him guessing.

Waladopa, you mentioned that the search feature is annoying but your topic was titled "A Small Request"....had you titled it with something like "Quilting Abbreviations" you probably would have received more responses to your question. This is the main reason we have problems with the search feature in that the topics started in so many threads leave the viewer to wonder what they are questioning/needing help. You certainly aren't the first and won't be the last one.
The search feature doesn't know how/where to put it therefore it gets lost in the maze of other ambiguous topics. I am not in any way trying to criticize you but hopefully helping you to understand why the search feature seems so frustrating and annoying to many of us. It truly is a great feature for all of us but it is only as good as the topic creator describes their topic. So before, I get jumped on for speaking the truth please everyone understand this was meant to help with a situation that could easily be resolved for the benefit of all members of the board. |
Quiltmaker,
I do thank you. I try to watch that, like the last picture of my latest quilt, I put the name of it in the subject line, not "just finished" |
Thank you Walldopa for understanding what I was trying to express. I do appreciate that......we are all human and try our best to be helpful. This truly is a great board with caring and thoughtful members...
