I bought the white, large cutting mat from Joann's and it has an odor to it that I dislike. Does anyone else have this problem? How did you combat it? Thanks for all the help I can get.

you can take a very mild soap and some warm water and wash it and then let it air dry. or take a towel and pat dry it. I just let mine air our for a few days and that seemed. to help.

I won't buy that one for that reason. It smells like the grips on my DH golf clubs. I don't think it ever goes away.

Some of them stink like dead fish for a while after you have them.
The smell WILL go away.
Just not quick enough!!

DH got me one for Christmas. I guess I was lucky, didn't have any smell.

I took a step ladder, placed it in a shady spot at the side of the house, and hung my matt for almost a month.....the smell finally left. I had washed it with a Dove detergent mixture prior to hanging it. I thought I had lost a bunch of money, but eventually, the smell did leave and my matt has been use for over two years now with no return of the "rubber base" smell.

Oh yes, I also sprinkled baking soda liberally over the matt to help soak up some of the smell. Still, I think the warmth of airing it, did the job best......

I have found that if I use Dreft detergent or the Dreft stain remover on just about anything that has an unpleasant odor the odor disappears. I think that it has something in it to remove odors because of the nasty smell that baby formula leaves on anything it touches.
