Has anyone actually done the smokey mtn stars quilt from quiltville in shirts? Any idea how many shirts are needed. I have a few of my FIL's shirts and I would love to make a quilt for my SIL but don't know how many more shirts will be needed. If anyone has any advice please help me!

if you go to a thrift shop, and find some XXL shirts, cheap and if your running short..go get some more!
also check on freecycle in your area, to get some plaid mens dress shirts!
it is a great pattern..i love the way the stars look!

I made a large lap sized quilt in this pattern a few years ago but have no idea how much fabric I used as the whole quilt was scrappy. Half of the stars were blue and the other half brown with creams for the backgrounds. That's the problem when making scrappy quilts, you never know how much you need.

This post reminds me that a Good Will store just opened in our area, have to take a look to see if I can find some good fabric finds there. May in Jersey

I did this large lap quilt in shirts...don't remember how many it took, but not many. The cream, non-star blocks were a TOT and the red and blue borders were not made from shirts...only the actual stars and their points were from shirts.

Loretta,
That quilt is beautiful. You did a great job on it.
