Snake river log cabin

When making a curved log cabin quilt are all the blocks made the same and then the curved illusion comes with the way you place the blocks? The snake river log cabin quilt looks like maybe there are some blocks that are made differently. Thank you for any information that you can give me. I’m just doing some research right now but I really would love to make one.

I have a different pattern that uses the curved log cabin block and the length of the strips in the blocks are different sizes which is what makes the curve.

A curved log cabin quilt is made by using logs of different widths, e.g. 1" wide dark logs and 1/2" wide light logs. Snake River log cabin is a Judy Martin design, found in her Log Cabin Quilt Book. It does not use different widths, but some of its logs are pieced. The placement of the piecing gives the curved look.

If I recall correctly, the blocks were all the same. I remember having the pieces all cut and lined up, stacks and stacks of each length and then neutral and the red block. I made mine scrappy.

I started out sewing the red to the neutral, and then added the correct length of neutral on that end, and then the correct length of print on the other.

Then when I had all my "logs" sewing, I started putting them together in the log cabin pattern. The different is that you only sew two sides instead of going around on all four. Starting with a 4 patch neutral and the added longer and longer strips until you end with the longest print strip.
