snowballing a block

Does anyone have any advice for making the corners on a snowball block? I've tried the regular way; putting the square on the corner, sewing on the diagonal and pressing back but my just don't turn out well. They're all uneven. Please help! I just got a cute charm pack with all kinds of fruits and vegetables and I thought a bug jar quilt would look cute. I can paper piece it I suppose but I'd rather not do that. It seems like a lot of extra work. There are a lot of little squares in that package! Thank you all.

I always had trouble with this till i took a class. Now they turn out great!
Start sewing 3 0r 4 stitches then slightly go off the line towards the corner and then gradualy get back on the line for your last 3 or 4 stiches. this gives you a little extra when floding back and then you can sq up.
Hope this helps.

I sew my seam just "outside" (towards the corner) of the true diagonal to allow room for the fold. Then I trim off the square only. Now I can fold over the square to line up with the background fabric and press. Once its lined up you can trim off the bottom fabric.

Try sewing a scant 1/4 inch seam. That provides for the fold-back which takes up a bit of room and gives you the exact 1/4 inch by the time you press.

If you check the newest Missouri Star Quilt Co YouTube video, Jenny has a tutorial segment on making a jar quilt.
