I'm making a "simple" irish chain baby quilt for a friend's baby (who is due today). I was planning on doing free motion quilting all over it in a meandering pattern in white. Spent a long time last night fighting with the machine over tension and breaking thread (and I'm using good thread, even). Finally got it working well. Quilted a bit over 25% of the quilt, mostly on the border, and realized that the white thread looks great on the white/bright pieced part, but really lousy on the dark blue border. Ahh! Will probably rip it out and do the quilting on the border in a more matching dark blue, but am not looking forward to that much time with the seam ripper.

Deep breaths and a nice cup of tea. It will all be done soon enough. Worth ripping the white and having it look the way you envisioned.

I've done that before, got a small portion done and decided I really didn't like it, but kept going, once it was all finished, I did like it, so rip if you must, but I say keep plugging away, the baby won't care what color it is.

Sometimes I like when a contrasting thread is used, it can give a whole new dimension to something. :D

Just breath. So sorry you are having such a time with it.

I quilted a log cabin with teal thread, I see more mistakes on the tan backing than on the front, but I really like it once it is finished. I consider it one of my learning to fm quilting pieces. I'm not ashamed to give it away.

Next time use same color as backing in bobbin and same color as most of the top and make sure tensions are right. I do this almost all the time. Mistakes are given way to much credit.
|
If you really hate it, rip it out. But if you can live with it leave it. I bet they will love it the way it is.

If your fabric isn't prewashed, the stitche may sink in more and the contrast may not be as noticeable :D:D:D
