So this happened today....

My first time owning a Brother - my older sister has two, one I had the chance to work with a little and I fell in love with it. We had some extra cash, fiancé told me I deserved it so I ordered it yesterday from Amazon. It arrived a few hours ago and I've been having fun playing around and getting to know it.
Anybody else have this model? |
very nice. I love my brother (different model)
|
Harp too small for quilting. Otherwise it looks very nice.
|
I have a Brother that I love. Not this model, but is is cute. Have lots of fun with it
|
Oooo...new machine. How fun!
Watson |
It will serve you well. I wrangled a king size stitch in the ditch quilt through a Brother of similar size. Not easy but I did it.
|
Its a fine size for piecing tho, Jingle. Why be so negative when someone is happy about their new machine? https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...s/confused.png
Enjoy your new machine, RRBrat! Just look at all those stitches that are built in. |
Oh look at those pretty stitches! I see 69 (actually 70) wonderful ways to have fun on your new machine! Enjoy and have fun with it!
|
You will love that machine! Play with all those decorative stitches and make a notebook so you can remember how each one looks in "real life." Seeing it makes me want one just like it.

Everyday
You will like this little machine🙂. Always exciting for new tools.
I use this machine everyday to make store samples for our fabric department @ Material Girl Fabric and Crafts. We have had no issues with it except sewing many layers in projects such as bags, with many seams, intersecting with zippers. Just make sure to put in a stronger needle and turtle stitch along. It will tell you if it doesn’t like it. Have fun, |
Cute machine. It looks like it has Four blanket stitches which would be great for applique. I can't quite determine the differences between 11, 12, 41 and 42. It looks like it also has a serpentine stitch (22) that many like to quilt with..
Have fun with your new machine. Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do. Not affiliated with off-site link(s) |
Enjoy your new machine and its different stitches. My first machine was a Brother and is still going strong after 34 years
|
I have the prw 5500 as a travel machine. One DD also has one and another DD the cs6000i. Nice little machines.
|
I'll be taking her out for a full blown test drive this coming VQW, I bought the fabric for my nephew's quilt (doing the Roundabout, I just love that quilt) and I'm hoping everything will be here in time. Fabric and thread will be here later today, I'm too excited.
I've been looking for a good, good machine to help ease the workload on my SS2402, she's purring like a kitten still and I'd like to keep her that way for as long as I can. My plan is to use the Brother for piecing and doing some quilting, but the 2402 is going to be my free motion quilter now. |

The stitches on 11 and point either left or right directions. Same with 41 and 42. That is a nice machine with lots of useful features.Congrats on your new machine and enjoy! |
Congratulations on your new machine! I have 3 Brothers (different models) and love them all. Yours has lots of nice stitches and you can have a lot of fun playing with different ways to use them in quilts. I second the suggestion that you make a “stitch dictionary” so you will have a real life reference for each of the stitches. You can easily make one by layering a piece of stabilizer in between two pieces of fabric and then just stitching out each individual stitch. I stitched mine out in the order that they appear on the machine starting each stitch at the default length and width, then partway down the line of each stitch I changed the width and length to see what they looked like and just used a super fine point sharpie marker to label them.
Have fun! Rob |
Oh that's a cute one!! So much fun to have a new machine. Enjoy!
|
I don't have that model but another small Brother machine I bought off of Costco which I never would have thought to do. I liked it so well for putting at the end of my cutting table to attach my bindings that I bought another for a guy I was teaching how to sew and got that one for even less than I bought mine. It takes some of the Babylock feet I had at the time and does use the bobbins so that was a plus for me when I decided to sell the Babylock when I went to downgrade my number of machines. I kept the little Brother machine so that tells you how much I like it.

Happy quilting. Enjoy!!

I have owned 2 different Brothers and loved them both. When I buy an embroidery machine, it will be a Brother.
|
My first and only Brother....was a.....wait for it.....typewriter! It was a great typewriter.....actually had a memory and if you caught your mistake without going too far, it would print over them with the white "erase" tape. I think I had something like 16 letters to catch my mistake in. Actually, we do not have a brother dealer up here and I think the chain stores only carried singers or something like that....so, I bought Vikings and then Bernina's and now have too many accessories for both to change. Have fun, makes me want to go out and pick one up too....but I do have one viking, 2 berninas, 1 pfaff, one singer 66, an apqs lucey longarm, and a viking serger. And I worked hard to downsize to just those.
|
I love Brother machines and bought 2 similar but not exactly like yours. I bought my oldest daughter one and my granddaughter one. I have Brother emb machines and love them. Have fun! Your sample stitching looks great!
|
I like to piece with mine while in bed and have it on my lap sitting on the Quilters Cut n Press board. It's a Project Runway with 100 stitches. Love the serpentine stitch. Also getting used to using the buttons instead of foot control and I really like it. At first it felt very awkward and made me nervous, but I'm getting the hang of it now.

Great idea on the stitch dictionary, I'll be doing that for sure, thanks guys!
I think what I like the most about this machine so far is the variable speed. It's amazing when you get a new item that you didn't think you needed in your life, then when you get it, suddenly it's the best thing since sliced bread. I'm really impressed with the speed and power it has, I was reading the manual earlier and couldn't get over the top speed - 850 stitches a minute?! Holy cow! This is also the very first machine I've ever owned where I didn't have to oil it, that's going to take some getting used to. Super excited to get to work on my nephew's quilt, his fabric and thread came in yesterday and the colors are so vibrant (going with various shades of blue), his is going to be a treat to work on. |
Brothers machines have always been good to me. I have 3 of them.
|
I like Brothers, both at the bottom and middle and I haven't had that much experience on the high end, but I have friends who love their Embroidery machines.
My first Brother was a Costco "quilters" special and I ran it hard as a portable machine for years when I was doing a lot of classes and traveling to friends houses and such. Wore the little thing out, but it was used as a trade in for someone who was getting an embroidery machine. My current Brother is pretty much a bottom of the line machine, probably sold for about $100 total when new, I bought it in the box at the goodwill for $20 and then had to spend another $20 for a bobbin winder to actually use it. When both my old vintage machine went out (foot pedal fell and the 60 year old bakelite or whatever inside shattered) and my modern Bernina needed a new thread sensor but shops were closed due to covid, out came the Brother and it sewed many a mask and other project. I think Brother works very hard for usability, I find their diagrams and such to be understandable and the machines easy to thread and maintain. It's pretty hard at this point to thread them incorrectly although things do happen. I was very pleased with how easily I could go out and buy a 1/4" quilters foot for the Brother. It is very accurate and was just on the notion wall at Walmart? Joann?? didn't even have to order it. |
What a great looking machine. I'm sure you will enjoy it. I love all the neat variety of stitches that you can play with. That's one thing I wish I had more of on my Janome Magnolia 7330. Happy quilting!
|
Nice! have fun with it! I have 2 Brother machines. My older model comes with a sewing cabinet. It was a steal! The lady that sold it wanted $125.00. It came with the sewing chair and the drawers were full sewing notions such as elastic, buttons, snaps, patches and other stuff. I'd say about $300 would have been a minimal price to have bought that. I also own a Brother SE425 machine that sews and embroiders. I love it! Love them both!

I have this machine and love it. I wanted a "modern" machine after working with a vintage for years. There is a youtube series that goes through every stitch, foot, seam type, etc. for this machine if you ever need help. I have sewn so many wonderful, beautiful things on it. Every now and then I think I need a newer machine, but then I realize that I love what I have. One thing it took me a few years to figure out and it might be unique to my machine, but just FYI: I can't backstitch when it's set to 37 or 38 (1/4 inch seam) but I can with all the other settings. Happy stitching!

Just don't sew fast on it, it will dance on the table.https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

A new machine is exciting. I have three Brothers. A 420, 1500, and Pacesetter embroidery/sewing. No problems with either one.
|
I love Brother machines!

My light weight bottom of the line Brother -- I ended up taping it down with some blue tape and I had to do something similar to the foot pedal, think I wedged in a box or something. We were much happier when not trying to chase it like a loose dog. Didn't notice it so much with the medium level one which was still light enough to carry/move pretty easily but stayed in front of me nicely.
