Black & Decker classic iron at Walmart. love it!

My favorite iron is a cheap Black and Decker that is probably 15 years old - never spits and pumps out a lot of steam. Want to find another like it but know that won't happen!

I use Black and Decker Classic and Continental Dry iron in my sewing room. I have a Reliable iron in my laundry room, it has great steam. I have a lightweight iron bought for $9 at Walmart that stays in my quilt to go tote. I have a vintage Sunbeam DH had before we got married. When a steam iron starts spitting and sputtering I toss it. So far these I have now have lasted the longest.

I've had the same Rowenta for 14+ years. Don't know the model, but one thing it does is stut off when unused for a period of time. That's not ideal with quilting, so maybe loook for one without htat feature...

After all this time, it still works great and doesn't leak. My neighbors daughter accidentally dropped it years ago on my basement floor (it was turned off) and it worked fine after that.

I have a Black and Decker Classic. It's wonderful....does have auto shutoff but as other have said heats up so fast it doesn't cause me a problem like other irons. It's also smaller than the new irons and is heavy so works great!!!!! Not expensive under $25. I have had expensive irons and they don't work any better and usually leak or spit.

I LOVE digital irons. My husband bought me my first digital iron
about 7 years ago and I have been hooked on them ever since.

With that being said, I just purchased a Mfg. refurbished iron from
ebay It is a Reliable Velocity V100 Digital iron with steam generator.
It is 1800w and has a generator "motor" that powers the steam out.
Totally LOVE this and it can be set to disable the auto-off setting.

It was a pricey, but I am very well pleased with my purchased, and of
course this is just MY personal opinion and feelings.

Jim got me a Proctor Silex a couple of years ago. No shut off. Heats up quickly. Not expensive. The model number says 17135. I am very happy with it.

I have the Reliable D100. While it does have auto shut off, you can override it. I used the override once, then turned off the power strip.
I like auto shut off, but not always the way appliances do. I use timers. Everything from purchased to adapted hot tub with uses time increments.

If you know you have 2 or 3 hours to devote to piecework, then the iron should give you that time. If you are only working on something in spare time - like waiting for a load of laundry, etc, then a 10 minute shutoff isn't bad.

I've used Rowenta irons for years and have always liked them but I've heard a lot of good things about Black and Decker lately and have been thinking I'd try one.
