I'm such a scatterbrain. I had two sets of blocks made for the Funky Neighborhood swap. Made, pressed and put away. Now if I could only remember where. . . . . . . I've looked all day and still can't find them. There's only one more room to look in. What am I going to do if I can't find them?????? ARRRGGGGHHH!!!!!!! :( :( :(

craftybear 06-15-2010 03:08 PM

oh no, that is awful, I hope you find them,

I need to have an area for the projects that I am working on and one for swaps

craftybear 06-15-2010 03:09 PM

are they around your sewing machine, did you put them in an envelope???

I hope you find them so you don't have to start all over again.

Oh I so hate when this happens and I get so mad at myself too. It just drives me nuts! I am sure you will find them. I once misplace an entire completed quilt! I was frantic and can't imagine what I did with it nor how the heck could I lose it! It was in a dufflebag type thing we use for traveling on the motorcycles. Was sitting right in the middle of my sewing room the whole time. Walked by the darn thing at least a dozen times thinking it was my brothers bag for when he comes to visit. Oh yeah I was pretty darn mad with myself. I call it CRS Cant Remember S**t. When it gets really bad it progresses to CRAFT.

Sometimes taking a break from looking helps. I also use the alphabet to help remember things.. It will come to you, relax a bit.

There are times when being organized is NOT a good thing.

Are they in your car ready to go?
Think - where would you put yourself if you were ready to go?

Just a thought....
Good luck in finding them.

If you have someone (like a kid or a DH who acts like a kid) ask them to go in and "rearrange" things in your sewing room. Just give them 10 minutes... they're not to trash it up, but to just MOVE things from where they normally are. When you go back to "fix" what they've done, you may find the missing blocks. If your brain get "confused" at the normal suddenly not being normal, you might trigger your memory or accidentally find them. Whatever the case... deep breaths. They ARE there.

vickie1976 06-15-2010 03:29 PM

I hope you find them. Since my husband passed away I have problems remembering where I put things. So I started putting sticky notes by my computer to tell me where I put things.

raptureready 06-15-2010 03:33 PM

I think they may have fallen victim to speed cleaning---when everything gets thrown in a room with a closed door. Either that or they fell into the garbage and got thrown out. I'm still looking. I'm sure I put them somewhere. I've looked in three dressers, numerous tubs of quilting fabric, numerous boxes, bags and stacks of quilting fabric and still can't find them. I can find all the fabrics I was using but not the finished blocks. Between birthday parties, overnight guests, vacation, quilting retreats, etc., who knows where they could be.

I know sometimes I have to just lay down and close my eyes and try to visualize myself the last time I saw something and go from there.

MarthaVA 06-15-2010 03:56 PM

That's the problem when you put things "away," they go away and you can't find them! I hope they show up for you.

julia58 06-15-2010 03:57 PM

I hope you find your missing blocks, I know how you feel, I would loose my head sometimes........

raptureready 06-15-2010 03:58 PM

SUCCESS!!! Finally after I told myself to forget about them, after all, I still had almost two weeks to make some more, I found them!!! Some how they had gotten mixed in with some of my clothing fabric that I'd been looking at to make a nightgown for a friend. When I relaxed and started putting fabric away, there they were. I'm so happy I could dance if I wasn't so tired. Now I'm excited about making more. YEA!!!!! Thank all of you for being so nice and concerned. I like the suggestion about notes on the computer. Since I'm here so much maybe I could remember to read them. My memory was fantastic (photographic) up until about 6 years ago when I went for way too long on way too little blood. Then after a couple of transfusions I had 7 surgeries and surgical proceedures in 2 1/2 months. The memory has come back some but not like it used to be. At this point I don't think it ever will.
I must have meant to put them away, started looking at the flannel and picked them both up at the same time.

athenagwis 06-15-2010 03:59 PM

Oh no!!! I hope you find them!!! They were so much fun!!!

This is what I do too, I try and visualize the last time I had them and then I slowly work my way forward with them. It works most of the time.

Good luck!!!!

Congratulations!

One year the kids couldn't get on the school bus because I put their tickets away for safe keeping. Got them replaced and found the originals around Christmas.
You are not alone.

Glad to hear that there is a happy ending :D:D:D

I have trouble keeping track of things. I am trying a "new" to me system and hope it will actually work. I am putting completed blocks in 2 Gal zip-locks then into a dedicated plastic bin in the sewing "room"/area. I hang the bag with the stuff I am working on up on the bulletin board. I may have to rethink this and tweek it, but it is starting to work better. I am always amazed I can keep my lab space pristine and organized (down to labeling the cabinet and shelf something is located on) but my desk and house is a disaster. My mother-in-law swears by ziplocks and I've seen her cut, store and organize multiple quilts at a time. I figure she's been at it over 80 years so I should learn from the pro.

I hope this helps.

QuiltingGrannie 06-16-2010 04:18 AM

So glad you found them!

sounds good to me except I'd be wanting to go back to Marshalls and I have so much fabric now that I'm tripping over it. I need to sew like a mad woman for a year or so and get rid of some of it.

LOL, I USE ziploks all the time--somehow I can even manage to loose them. Methinks I need to organize a little more.

littlehud 06-18-2010 08:55 AM

I'm so glad you found them. I've done the same thing myself.
