I've heard about how soft Minkee (Minky?) fabric is, but what about sewing and quilting with it? Is it slinkly, slidey or does it behave? :shock: I have a really soft flannel baby quilt that I'm doing that I was thinking of putting Minkee on the back, will that work? If it will, should I just do straight line quilting? Suggestions, stories, advise is greatly appreciated!!! :lol:

I don't think that you will enjoy machine quilting with minkee...It has a tendancy to slip and slide a bit. I have found that I ended up doing a lot of unstitching when working with it.
Maybe others have had better luck.

I love it. Just pin it...a lot. It also makes for a great backing to a quilt.

Here's a few tips, I've yet to try:

Using a walking foot helps prevent the slippage. When stitching Minkee to cotton fabric, place the Minkee on the bottom. Use lots of pins. Also if piecing be aware of the direction of the nap if it matters for your pattern.

I have the top finished and was thinking of using it for the back to make it really soft. So what I'm hearing is pin, pin, pin.. :D I can do that!

Is there shrinkage issues? Will there be a problem if I've used flannel for the top, warm and natural for the middle and minkee for the back?

I LOOOOOOOVE it and used it for a baby quilt about a year ago and it is babies fave. I hand quilted it without a problem. I am now using it for a quilt back for DS and DD. I used a very thin batting and the quilt is so soft very warm and cuddly. It is just a YUMMY quilt the best way I can describe it is comfort food for your body. There is no shrinkage as it is poly or some fake fiber.

Thanks trupeach. I was wondering how minkee handled when hand quilted. I love the feel but have never worked with it. I'll admit I'm a bit scared. I've heard horror stories of slippage, of horrid puckers and other problems when machine quilted. Yet, I love the feel. I can't get away from that. I love to hand quilt so I will definitely have to give this a try. I'm thinking I should practice on a lap quilt for me before I try to make something for someone else. :lol:

I didn't pin pin pin like everyone says I pinned as I nornally do. I used a q-snap floor frame. The back was beautiful because of the nap it showed all the stitches more so then on cotton.
