a hanging sleeve? I can understand the need to sew the top---but as I was just sewing the bottom of Cats--I got to wondering how this task could be made easier. :roll:

I have one more wall hanging to go--starting the top now... I'll wait for your replies and maybe be done earlier than expected! :wink:

The only issue with gifts is they can't be WIP. I like making tops and calling it good! So many steps to these projects.....Wah. :? :lol:

Things I'd take into consideration first -

How heavy is it?
How wide an area needs supporting?
How comfortable am I with a band of stiffer texture?
How often is it going to be washed?
Is the piece being shown at exhibition?

I use it for a lot of things, but if it is serving as support for any amount of weight, I wouldn't trust it long term.

The Cats was too big--50" square--but the Wine one is very light--43" by 18". I think the bottom of the hanging sleeve pulls when hung? And I wonder if the band of thickness would show or hinder laying flat on the wall? Sigh--I'll sew and try it sometime on one for me--not a gift.

Do you have the binding already? If not, I would just cut 2 squares, maybe 4" then fold in half diagonally, either 1 or 2 times(can't remember) then put that on your top corners, baste in place, then put your binding on. I've done this only a couple of times, but it worked very well.

I second what pocoellie said. I use this method almost exclusively now...it's much easier and quicker than a hanging sleeve. Here's a link to some directions.
