Hi Ladies:
I'm new to this site and I am currently looking for an eagle in flight applique pattern for a quilt. I'm getting married in the spring and would love to make my husband-to-be a eagle quilt as a surprise. Any suggestions?

Try a Google search for eagles.
You should come up with some pictures you could print and cut out.
Could also try coloring books too.

Hi and welcome from Massachusetts. Love to see it when you have it.

I recently saw a finished wallhanging that looked like it was made with the "snippets" method.

Here's a link to that pattern
http://www.cindywalter.com/patterns/eagle_pattern.htm

I've made this pattern as well, but I used a faux leather for the appliqué pieces. http://www.sunsetsilhouette.com/geor...p=Eagle_Spirit

This looks like a neat pattern too.

quilterella ... did you receive your pattern yet?

quilterella 08-07-2009 12:11 PM

Not yet...
should have been the last couple of days, but, probably Monday or Tuesday. Just waiting patiently and trying to clean up a Pam Bono Ablum quilt while I wait. I will keep you posted.

I made the soaring eagles kit into a lap quilt for my husband

http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/19433.page

It was done in batiks but would adapt easily to tone on tone or solid colours.
The pattern was easy to follow.

i love caryl bryer fallert - she is hands down my favorite quilt artist.

The lap quilt is absolutely beautiful. I'm sure your husband was surprised and enjoys it. As I said, just waiting patiently... Obviously it won't be done before our wedding, so the goal is 1st anniversary...LOL

Finally got my eagles pattern, but, they didn't send the book that goes with it (which I had also ordered). Now I'm contemplating whether or not to do a landscape of mountains and a lake, and applique the eagles onto it, or order the book and do it the original way. Either way it will be alot of work...but worth it in the end. I'm open to suggestions ladies...

Butterflyspain 08-16-2009 06:59 AM

Mamagus, That is a beautiful pattern.

You got loads to choose from.

Welcome to the board Elle

my answer really depends on how big you want the finished project to be.

the eagles have a wing span of 34 inches so the landscape scene will be rather large to keep everything in scale.

which book goes with this pattern - i wasn't aware that caryl bryer fallert made a book for this design.

thimblebug6000 08-16-2009 07:17 AM

Not sure if you have also checked out her gallery of quilts. But for me, the fantastic part is the dyed fabrics behind the birds. I don't think a detailed landscape would be worth the trouble when it's the eagles that you're wanting to stand out. JMHO

quilterella 08-17-2009 01:26 AM

Hi Klue:
The book isn't specific for the eagles, but, it is the Creative String Piecing, to get the idea of how to piece it. Still thinking about next course of action.

quilterella 08-17-2009 01:28 AM

Good point...still thinking about it. I like the dyed fabric version myself. A landscape may actually lose the eagles.

quilterella 08-29-2009 02:22 AM

Finally, I am under way...The first eagle is almost done, and am having tons of fun with all the tiny pieces. However, I still haven't decided on the background. I have 6 meters of blue and white cloud material, that, I could incorporate, or do a string background like the orginal pattern, or... You know what...there are so many options, but, for now, I'll work on the eagles...maybe inspiration will strike...haha

SharonC 08-29-2009 03:21 AM

Can you post a progress picture so we can ooohhh and ahhh? I love this pattern and would love to see how you're approaching it.

Jim's Gem 08-29-2009 10:27 AM

I would love to see it too. It looks like an awesome pattern. Probably way over my skills though

thimblebug6000 11-01-2009 07:54 AM

Have you posted any pictures of your eagles in progress on the board?
