some of Jenni's favorite photo tips for getting good shots.

Lighting: Turn off your flash! It is very best to use natural lighting. An ideal place would be in a room with a north-facing window or a covered patio. Avoid direct sunlight—indirect lighting will give you a softer, more natural look.

Getting it all in: Frame your quilt with a little extra space around it. (A plain background is best.) Some point-and-shoot cameras have a shift from the viewfinder to the lens, so you'll want to be sure to capture the entire quilt. Then, step forward and get some close-up shots of the details you're especially proud of.

Great tips. Unfortunately, mine usually get photographed when the 2 teens in my house are home and willing to hold the quilt over the edge of the deck! :D

Those are good tips. Thanks Celeste. I wish I'd read this before taking the pic of my scrappy quilt. I used the flash and the colors aren't true at all. It looks all "glittery", which it isn't. I know that sounds funny considering there are a gabillion fabrics in that quilt LOL, but mainly I'm talking about the background fabric. I'll try your way next time. :)

thanks for posting these tips, celeste. i know that the best pics i have taken are outside. but usually i finish a quilt late at night and i am so excited i just turn on all the lights i can and shoot away. then i am disappointed that the colors aren't natural. :roll: :roll: :roll: :roll:

I just recently purchased a digital camera. I am practicing with it and have signed up for a class on how to use it. Then after that I will take they follow up course on editing and and I guess I'll learn how to post pics to the internet in there somewhere. I have had no problem getting them into the computer, but editiing is still a mystery. I have recently began working and find that I am exhausted after work and even tho I have three days off from one job, I've been working in our remodeling business with my husband on many of those days. Whatever time I'm not working I'm trying to rest or catch up on my house cleaning. But I am currently in the process of organizing my stash and sorting through all the stuff I've collected,(treasure/trash/lol) So I can store or dispose of the excess and reclaim my sewing cottage :roll: Then I expect not only to have more time to sew but also hae more to show off! lol lol.
