Some suggestions please?

Hey all, so I have been planning on making a quilt for each of my husband's 6 youngest siblings. I was hoping to get them done by this Christmas, but that didn't happen, lol. So I pretty much have all of them figured out except one. It's going to be for my 13 year old sister-in-law. Her favorite color is turquoise or anything related to it.
I have been scouring quilterscache.com but I think I'm brain fried now. I am having trouble looking at the patterns and picturing them in turquoise. Do any of you have any suggestions? I'm still fairly new at all of this, and I've never paper pieced before, so I have been looking at anything that doesn't require paper piecing. Hopefully I'll get all 6 done and sent out for Christmas next year. Thanks everyone!

Tuning Twenty would be quick and easy, I just cut one for my daughter, using a variety of star designs. A variety of turq and black/white would be pretty I think.

The Jelly Roll 1600 would be fast and easy. You can have it done in one afternoon. I'm sure you could find jelly rolls with turq's and greens and blues.

Check out Lucky Stars by Atkinson Designs. Very easy but looks more complicated. Hardly any seams to match. I've done several in all different color schemes and they all came out great.

I don't know how to post pictures or I'd show you one that I just made - really quick and easy, but oh so cute. I took a yard and a half of chevron fabric, made a sandwich with batting and coordinating fabric for the backing, typed the person's name into my computer in a bold script font and then enlarged it to about 250 times the original size and printed it out. I traced it in reverse in a coordinating color onto fabric, and appliqued it onto the chevron fabric. Then I quilted it right down the middle of each white chevron stripe, made bias binding out of remaining chevron fabric and bound it. The whole process took me just 2 days, and most of that was hand stitching the binding. I used bright red and white chevron, did the name in turquoise and white small dot fabric, and used a bright white, red, turquoise, pink and green print for the back. It is just absolutely adorable.

Trip Around the World is fast and easy, make the squares as big as you like, and look super when done!

What about something like this for a young lady
http://www.ohfransson.bigcartel.com/...rk-pdf-pattern
or something like this in an assortment of blue and turquoise fabrics
http://www.freshlemonsquilts.com/?p=1016
this one in a different colour combination would be cute too

Take at look at katier825's avatar (above)--it's a stunning French Braid with turquoise. French Braids are so easy and fast to make, and the results are beautiful. If you are looking for a really fast quilt to make, try a Column Quilt (by Nancy Zieman). You can make a quilt in one day with that method.

Woody, I love that first link you posted of the New Wave quilt! What a super modern, chic quilt for a young chick!

Deborahlees 08-12-2012 07:27 AM

What about twisted pinwheels, perhaps with the tourquise, white and another color ???? lime green

SouthPStitches 08-12-2012 07:50 AM

For a 13 year old, I'd make one of the "modern quilts". I just finished a fat quarter lap, square within a square that I cut and pieced in just an afternoon and I'm no quilting speed-demon. Being a young lady, I'd keep it kind of trendy. Turquoise with red or very bright pink. I made the aforementioned lap in bright turquoise and bright lime green. Also have seen turquoise paired with a great shade of orange. Not your traditional colors, but younger folks just love them.

The easiest and fastest quilt pattern, I've come across, is Warm Wishes. It can be tailored to just about any fabric and can use either three or four fabrics. The big plus is that it looks rather impressive, to a non-quilter! Depending upon your fabric, it can look casual or elegant . . . or anywhere, in-between!

Turquoise is also very pretty, with rich blues and greens.

I have one of these at the LA right now. I made it from the Rivera 2 (sp?) line from Connecting Threads. Here's the pallette... see if it works for you for this project...

I think those colors would be awesome, also (for a teen)! I second the Turning 20 & might also suggest Yellow Brick Road (I can do a lap-szied one in a day). Both are quick & good-looking to boot!

Hylarie 08-12-2012 02:33 PM

Thank you for all the suggestions. I'm off to go look them up and do some research!

I agree. Perfect pattern for a teenager.

barri1 08-12-2012 02:41 PM

A string quilt would be nice, and easy, and pretty fool proof. You can make it with different shades of turquiose. black, and white. it could be a weekend project.

aborning 08-12-2012 02:41 PM

I just LA'd a turquoise and black and white quilt for a customer that my teenage daughter loved. I have done a black (with just a little bit of white print on it, and a black (with quite a bit of white print on it), and a red print --and I did the Disappearing 9 patch in the 3 colorway. I really like this quilt and it seems everyone else does, too. I am actually going to make that same quilt with turquoise (instead of the red) for one of my neices for her graduation. The turquoise and black look awesome together. Just an idea.

tyoung 08-12-2012 05:24 PM

My vote is the Turning Twenty too! I cut the fabrics for one in an hour. They go together very quicly and showcase the fabric nicely.

This is a great suggestion. I did one in this pattern in turquoise and brown and I love it. I set blocks on point, just because, but it certainly wasn't necessary. By the way, I agree the Turning 20 can be beautiful. I made son one in a wide variety of batiks, including, turquoise, aquas, blues and purples and it was hard to let it leave hom.

Connecting Threads has a beautiful turquoise quilt on the cover of their magazine. If you check their web site, it will probably be there. It's not that expensive, and it comes in a kit.

Latrinka 08-13-2012 04:14 AM

Decisions, decisions! The possibilities are endless! LOL! Good Luck!

CajunQuilter2 08-13-2012 04:42 AM

Another easy pattern you might check out is Take 5. That is pattern I used for my first quilt. Good luck, would love to see pictures of the fabrics and let us know which pattern you go with.

kittiebug 08-13-2012 05:17 AM

Go to Missouri quilts, you tube she does a lot. LOve,Love. her

maviskw 08-13-2012 05:39 AM

I liked he zig-zag quilt, Woody, but I would not cut off the ends of the rows. I would like to see it with setting triangles all around the outside, and then a pretty border.

Tashana 08-13-2012 05:58 AM

I love the zig zag quilt but I would leave the edges zig-zag. I know it would be a binding nightmare, but still it would be a great and unusual quilt. Hmmm...maybe my next project.

jitkaau 08-13-2012 06:24 AM

I think the disappearing 9 patch is a good standby.

JEM2012 08-13-2012 06:29 AM

The Vintage Modern line has a pretty turquoise color in it - you could do something with that if you haven't already bought fabric. Take a look at Camille Roskelley's patterns on her simplify blog - most of them are pretty easy, and look great with that fabric line!

rush88888 08-13-2012 06:51 AM

i am partial to turquoise and red. i have seen some new collections in this combination, and it looks great together!

MartiMorga 08-13-2012 07:13 AM

I just saw this FREE pattern, I don't know if you are familiar with the FabShopHop but they have these patterns and this looks like the answer to me. Of course they have many more for you to think about. http://www.fabshophop.com/downloads/...enry-glass.pdf

captlynhall 08-13-2012 07:29 AM

Woody, the new wave quilt is perfect for a young lady about to enter her teens.

Valerie Scherr 08-13-2012 09:31 AM

if you check the pattern for magic squares you could use two color a nice turoquise and maybe a nice tan so it would like sand and surf...

Jingle 08-13-2012 10:35 AM

I could make them by Christmas this year. I finish one and start another. Good luck on next year.

Hylarie 08-13-2012 10:38 AM

Lots of tough decisions now! I haven't bought the fabric yet. I've mainly just figured out the colors each of them like and have been scouring the internet for ideas. I found great ones for the rest of them. She's just pretty tough to figure out. She's not a typical teenager, she acts much older. She likes vintage-y types of things. I haven't seen a ton of turquoise vintage prints so I was thinking perhaps a pattern that looked older? It's a surprise for them so I'm trying to figure it out without asking up front. Maybe I'll do some more sleuthing while I check out all these patterns!
