I prefer your first pic...the scrappy one. The yellow star here gets kinda lost in the print...would be great with a smaller print...or solid red or blue instead of the apple print. I'm just a big fan of scrappy!

Reading a patteern isnt much use to me... i make quilts up as I go alongnbased on what fabrics I have that look good together and how much of the fabric I have

i did ONCE buy a quilt kit... I spent 3 weeks reading the intructions over and over and over again.... Reead the cutting guide 3 times, cut once... No worries....Followed the intructions to the dot! But something was very wrong

I had my husband, who is a great perfectionist and technician look at the instructions.. He spent an entire evening counting, measuring, labeling and checking..... I had my 21 year old daughter have a look...... I took it to my sewing group for their attention...

Eventually I put the quilt to one side... Thinking I had spent a LOT of money on something I wasnt capeable of doing...

Then one long nightshift in ED I was chatting to a fellow quilter.... I told her about my disaster..... She is an expert quilter, she not only makes kits up in hours, but also creates real works of art... She can be a bit intimidating really..

And guess what?

The instructions were wrong.... She had brought the exact same quilt kit, from the same store and had the same problem

Her advice? Go back to the quilt and fudge it .... She told me I had enough knowledge and experience to be able to make a wonderful quilt.... That would Be unique....

I havent made a kit since... But that one DID get it finished, everyone loved it... And TBH.... Only an expert would know it isnt the same as the picture on the packaging!

Sometimes our mistakes are the cause for our greatest inspiration

I like your scrappy stars! It's great. If you decide you really want to get rid of it, I can send you my address. I'll be glad to give it a home!!!

I like the scrappy blocks best. I think the dark stars stand out better.

Love the look of the scrappy one with all the different colors of gingham! But your 'refinement' with the green border is lovely too. As said before, whichever way suits you is the way to go.
