There is nothing wrong with you. Just pick a project and tell yourself 'This is what we do today'

lisalovesquilting 01-11-2011 06:41 PM

Pick one and keep going. I've been working on finishing up UFO's and it feels good when one is done. You can do it.

klgreene 01-11-2011 06:46 PM

Join the crowd. I have stuff being cut out on my matt now. I have a baby quilt that really has to be done this month, a QAYG that I want to learn before I get to the one thing I really get done.

oatw13 01-11-2011 06:46 PM

Oh, man. I was soooo happy to get a new mat. I just set it out and looked at it. I didn't use it for a couple weeks! lol I kept using the old one.

Enjoy the newness, it seems to wear off quickly!

sueisallaboutquilts 01-11-2011 06:46 PM

Honey, you aren't alone. I have the slows right now and I get mad at myself! :)

cjomomma 01-11-2011 06:49 PM

I'm in the same situation. I have about 8 quilts cut out and waiting for me.

0tis 01-11-2011 06:53 PM

I am feeling it too - I think winter does that to us - I am trying to find a new project - just can't make up my mind.

janRN 01-11-2011 07:03 PM

I'm in the same boat. I started a Storm at Sea wall hanging and I really messed it up. Turned it into a table runner and was going to practice FMQ on it. Folded it up, tossed it on the table and made a purse instead!

hperttula123 01-11-2011 07:05 PM

Yeah!!! Isn't it nice to get a new mat a rotary cutter?!?!?! Hope you get in the mood to cut something out soon.

wolfkitty 01-11-2011 07:07 PM

I have several projects lined up, in various stages of cutting, but can't seem to get myself going. I do enjoy looking at and feeling the fabric, tough.

wolph33 01-11-2011 07:09 PM

we all do that.I have about 10 tops done ready to quilt and I am still making tops.one day I will switch gears and quilt them

Mariposa 01-11-2011 07:18 PM

I do that too! Always have several projects going at the same time, and at various stages. Gotta keep the variety!

raptureready 01-11-2011 07:45 PM

I think it's because we all hurried and worked so hard getting everything done for Christmas and this is the "quiet after the storm" time. I finally forced myself to get my machine out today because I needed a new flannel nightie for an upcoming quilting retreat. Got it made and now I'm getting back in the mood for sewing/quilting. Nothing urgent to do right now so there's no pressure to do anything in particular. That makes it difficult to decide what to do.

Maia B 01-11-2011 07:55 PM

Ooo, flannel nightie.... I'm gonna go put one on, it's cold! Good idea, raptureready. I've got 20 year old UFOs. No shame, sometimes inspiration leaves before the project is done. I have a recent one I'm just creatively stuck on, two older samplers I make a block for whenever need to practice a block before doing my current project, and others that were ill-conceived or just not worth finishing (sloppy first projects). Plus, tops are a form of wealth.

danece 01-11-2011 08:47 PM

You my friend are perfectly normal, usually after the holidays are over we need to just kick back and not even think about things for a few weeks. I like to hit the after Christmas sales and replenish my stash, then about the first February I get back into the mood, Easter is coming you know :P

Ha- I am with you- I got a new mat, too, but kept using the old one. Actually the new one smelled so badly like plastic that I put it in the other room until it got done smelling.

Jim 01-11-2011 08:58 PM

take the first step and before you know it you'll take the one you looked for all along..the last one. AND then your quilt is finished...its taking the first step thats the hardest

cathyvv 01-11-2011 10:46 PM

Whatever is wrong with you, I have it, too!

Anna.425 01-11-2011 11:30 PM

This thread is like computer geeks getting together. They all speak the same language. We all know what you mean and there is nothing wrong with you. Some projects have to season well before they are ready to reveal themselves.

jeanneb52 01-13-2011 02:40 AM

I have been working on my UFOs since New Years Day and am making progress. But I really want to start a new one. Soon! I hate a stack of UFOs starring at me.

I am in the same boat as you are. I bought a rotating(?) cutting mat before Christmas and then I got a Accqgo baby for Christmas and haven't used either of them yet.

Good for you. Sometimes we need to get something just for us. Now pick a fabric and cut, cut and cut some more.

Sassylass 01-13-2011 11:17 AM

I think we all go through that at one time or another. I had wanted to start another top but caught a cold instead..even picking up a cutter seems a chore right now :(
Hopefully we will all get back in "the groove" :)

Here is an answer from a seperate post but fits the bill....

oh ... yes. that's among the most annoying of the quiltitus virus strains.

you have quiltitus nofinishus

then there are:
quiltitus buytoomuchifus
quiltitus neverstarticus
- often brought on by quiltitus can'tmakeupmymindwhichprojecttopickifus ... leading invariably to quiltitus juststareatallthatfabricus

none of those are as bad, however, as
-quiltitus ranoutofthefabricbeforethequiltwasdoneicus
-quiltitus can'tfindTHEoneremainingfabricIneedforthisprojecti fus

the one that will nearly kill the average quilter?

quiltitus imissedthehalfoffsalebyonedayicus!

concentration on one thing at a time.

OneMoreQuilt 01-13-2011 06:46 PM

Just make a pot of coffee (or tea) and go break in that new cutter and mat!!!! You'll feel better.

SitzSewing 01-13-2011 07:31 PM

show me a quilter/sewer who doesn't have more than 1 thing going on at a time.

rona thickpenny 01-14-2011 12:08 AM

I too have got a few UFOs but so far am getting through them . I finish one UFO then do a new project, finish that then another UFO and so on . At the moment ti is working , for how long that is the question. Time will tell.

katigirl 01-14-2011 12:30 AM

I swear it's just the mid winter blahs. :(

I wonder if it's "let down" from the holidays. We seem to put so much pressure on ourselves that our bodies & minds tell us it's time to slow down a bit after such a hectic time.

lnikkers52 01-15-2011 06:41 PM

I knocked my self out getting every thing done for Christmas. I can't get back to sewing just yet. But I am crocheting a lot now. My sewing will come back some day but for now Im content.

leonajo 01-15-2011 06:51 PM

Maybe u just need to take a couple of weeks off and NOT feel bad about it. Watch some bad TV, read a Romance Novel or two, eat sweets, maybe take a nap. If we were bears we would be sleeping right now. Maybe they have the right idea, just sleep thru the winter blues...lol

cag1949 01-25-2011 05:03 PM

I have a doggy quilt half made and been crocheting on an afghan for over a yr. Spend too much time on this board besides not being motivated!!!
