Saw this on the news this morning. If you go to www.soundsofpertussis.com and add a virtual quilt block $1 will be donated to their cause.

And communication of this disease is helpfully offset with by family of any new baby, grandparents too, who get the pertussis innoculation. My pediatrician has already given me the heads up that my shot will be due just after she finds out she's pregnant. :D

There was an outbreak of pertussis in a nearby city a couple years ago when my babies were babies... It's always tough to see babies suffer from something so easily avoided!
Unfortunately though most adults are not up to date with vaccinations and insurance companies don't help. When I got my dtap booster a couple years ago it was only because I had gone to a family practicioner instead of my normal ob/gyn for my yearly check-up. I never would have considered it - and ob-gyn don't deal with it - the insurance company denied it because it's not part of a routine adult female exam.
