Sparkles

Just found the correct color grey fabric , been looking for a long time but it has sparkles, hate those things. Any ideas to remove them, probably keep looking.

Can you use the reverse side?

Some come off more than others. It's amazing how much some of the glitter fabrics can shed and keep shedding for years. Others have practically zero shed and keep all the shine. If you really don't like it and a soft brushing/prewash isn't enough, then I'd figure it would damage the fabric too much to take it off -- but what does the back side of the fabric look like? You get to use whatever side works better for your project.

I've always liked metallic fabrics but in the last few years I've become aware that not everyone feels that way -- mostly because people have started handing it to me because they heard I would take it.

Glitters are my least favorite, but I recently worked with a pink piece that was just lovely. It cut nice, sewed nice, didn't shed, nice hand -- but definitely sparkly! I also had the chance to work with one of the very shiny plastic looking more solidly coated type and it was lovely to work with. Didn't have any problems with a hot iron or anything like that, my pressed seams were crisp and it had a nicer than expected hand fee;.

I like the glitter fabrics and used all of mine up. I used it in donation quilts for foster girls in my county.

I was beautiful and I know some girls would love it.

I had the same thought as Tartan, use the back side? If that doesn't work, check the back side of other grays and blacks in your stash, you may already have something that will work.

Can you use the Wrong Side of the Fabric? (if its the right color of grey?) I have read that you can use either side of the fabric in a quilt. I tried it and it worked well.

I have always been a fan of metallic fabrics but not so much glitter. I would most likely do what Iceblossom suggest by brushing and pre-washing if you have already purchased the fabric. If not I would keep looking for a different fabric only because that would be a lot of work only to have a fabric that you cannot use and cannot return to the store after washing. (I don't keep glitter fabrics in with the rest of my stash).

I went back and bought a half HD (on sale) to try. Cant use back. After washing & drying lots of glitter in my dryer and still lots on fabric. When I have more time I'll wash again. Think that stuff multiplies. LOL

Glitter is the herpes of the craft world. I think that's where the inspiration for The Cat In The Hat Comes Back came from - the pink ring around the bathtub that just kept transferring to every other surface? https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png We have friends who host a Halloween costume party every year. About 5-6 years ago, someone had a costume with glitter on it. They cleaned and cleaned and cleaned but to this day, they still find glitter in their house, lol. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png
