Ok... here goes... I definitely want to hand quilt something... have for years! Took the "hand quilting without pain" class at my LQS... but have put it off and put it off... sigh...

I keep thinking I need one of those nifty hoops I see in the quilt magazine.... or a large frame so the whole quilt can be ready... And then I thought since it's been years ago I took the class, I need to take it again...

But really, what I need to do is just "shut up and drive" as it were.

I need to just start quilting!!! Ladies and gentlemen who hand quilt, you've inspired me. I'll never get better at it unless I just dive in, right?

After cleaning out my DD's bedroom (where I'd stored some stuff), I found the first thing I pieced in my first piecing class. It is spray basted to the backing and is just calling to me to be quilted. It's not large, and even though some say the spray basting is not good for hand quilting, I'm thinking this is the piece on which I should begin the journey.

Please let me know if my thinking is "off?" I'll let you know how it goes...

Happy quilting!!

Just do it! Give yourself a break. If you are like me it will not be perfect but you will get better with practice. My challenge to you.... Don't let the sun go down today without working on this piece that is ready to go.:)

I would give it a try, just check to see if the spray basting is still holding :D:D:D

I think it sounds like you are mentally ready to go this time. So, jump in!
Good luck. :)

Just do it! Please, post a picture when you're finished. You certainly won't ever finish it if it's tucked away in your DD's closet! We ALL started, with the same trepidation, at one time or another! Even if you don't like it when you're finished, keep it. It's amazing how things look better when you haven't seen them in a long time! By the time I finish hand quilting each project I'm so sick of looking at it I usually give it away. Oh, how I wish I had some of those back!

I agree -- just jump in!!! Think of it as a learning experience. I still have the first thing that I hand quilted and I can see how far I have come. At the time I didn't finish it and have considered finishing it since then. But my stitches are so much better now that I don't even want to finish it now. I just keep it as a reminder.
