Speaking of starch.....

I have done a couple of quilts over the years, not really knowing what I was doing, and since becoming a member here I have learned so much that is helping me out. I recently started a quilt made from my Dad's shirts (we lost him two years ago) and I really want to do this one up right. When do I use the starch? Do I piece the whole thing and THEN starch? Please enlighten me on this. And thanks for all you guys have taught me.

I'm not sure about anyone else's advice, but I would starch before cutting into whatever size pieces you need. hopes this helps.

I starch before I cut & starch when I press, but I also wash everything when I am done - entire quilt put together - to get out all the sizing from the fabric and starch which I have added -I also like that antique look that you get wehn you launder after you quilt instead of before. hope that helps

I use starch or use sizing prior to cutting the fabric - helps the fabric be "stiffer" so easier to work with- does that make sense ?

Thank y'all so much. I DID stach the shirts as I ironed them before cutting so guess I'm good on that point. Maybe that's why my piecing is matching up so much better than before. See, I KEEP learning things here. I really appreciate the help. This quilt is going to have alot of meaning for me so would like it to be the best I've ever done.

Great. Starch before and during as needed and it really makes those seams do what you want.
