Can anyone tell me if there is anything I can add or "do" to my viking Freesia 415 to be able to have "cruise control"? I love do FMQ but hate that I have to go almost top speed to get going...I would like to do 75 mph instead of 100 mph. Other than upgrading my machine...any ideas?

I always thought flipping the foot pedal upside down helped.

Unless you have your machine set up on a frame you cannot use the Quilters Cruise Control. However on my Juki TL98Q they had a small speed controller box that would allow you to adjust the speed of the machine but you still had to learn how to control your stitches as it only controlled the speed of the machine and not the stitch length. I'm not sure if Viking offers this item for their machines but I certainly would call your dealer and ask them.

Before I got a machine that had adjustable speed, I thought of this idea...bring the foot control up to your hand and see how far to press it for the speed you want...mark that level...duck tape a piece of wood to the back of the foot pedal so that it will only depress to that point. I don't know if this will work for your machine, on my foot pedal the top depressed down over the bottom part. That little edge would have hit the wood at a certain point before it reached the floor. Perhaps you can do something similar? That way when you put your "pedal to the metal" it only goes to the stopper.

Does your machine have a Stop/Start button so that you don't have to use the foot pedal? If so, use the foot pedal and not the button. Personally, I don't like the button because it is too fast. Or maybe I'm just too slow. Anyway I feel that I have much better control using the pedal. Good luck! Marge L. |
