Spiral binding on softcover books

I went to Office Max today and had them put a spiral binding on a book I use a lot. It is a 215 page softcover book and it cost me $4.96 for them to spiral-bind it. Now when I use the book, I can lay it flat on my table & it will stay open!

Great idea!

I always remember I want to do that when I am bending the cover back.

I've done it to all my applique books and am thinking about doing it to my Bonnie Hunter books.
I think publishers don't do it because the title doesn't show and the books don't stand up well in stores unless they are really thick.
I can see their point. I just stack my comb bounds on their side.

That's a good price, I've had it done to a couple books as well. Especially ones that have a paper pieced pattern in them that you need to photo copy.

Can they replace comb bindings, or do they have to start from scratch? I have a comb bound book, and the plastic comb is brittle and coming apart--I'd like to have the comb replaced with a new one.

I'm sure they could replace it. I think the way the machine works is you place all the pages in the holes, then attach the binding.

Hi thimble!!

I've had it done to a book and even a BOM pattern at FedEx Office and they use the spiral coil. Regarding the comb, you could either call or take it in and see if one of these places can replace it.

I had it done to my EQ 7 book. Now instead of holding the book open with one hand, I have both hands free to pull my hair out!
