Spiral table runner?
Is there a tute hiding here for the spiral table runner? I have the ruler but thought someone did a tute...or was I dreaming yet again.

The pattern Spicy Spiral Table Runner has good instructions.
|
couldn't find your table runner, but this tree skirt uses the tool http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...l-t150119.html

I have made the spicy swirl. The instructions are very good. I have fabric for 2 more that I'm doing in Christmas colors. They are beautiful!!!
|
I was reading someplace that fab selection COULD be an issue for contrast or blending. Think I need to do a search on BING.COM for pic that I like and don't like. Started think about this project way too early!!
|
OMG look at the pic I found: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...nner&FORM=IGRE

Wow! Julie, there are a lot of ideas there. I did my first one in shades of brown, tan, gold etc. for autumn look. It was great but on that site I sure saw some others that are wonderful. DH now wants one applicated in the middle of a bed quilt.

I haven't heard of a tutorial but I found the pattern extremely well to follow and I don't enjoy patterns!
Actually I enjoyed making it so much I bought a second pattern and gave it away on my blog last year. It was too good not to share. |
Im wanting one so xesperatly, but cant afford that $20 ruler ...nor ccan i find one. Im hoping someone will gift me a red and white one.
|
They have a pattern...that would e cheaper than a pattern.
|
I hope you will buy the pattern that the designer sells. I exchanged emails with her a while back about the pattern I bought. After I opened it, I thought it was "a copy" and sold as the real thing so I emailed her about it. She was extremely nice and we tried to figure out if it was a bogus pattern but never really could. She mentioned that there is not much a designer can do about copies that are sold. She of course does not get any money from those copies but someone else does. If I put myself in her place, I can see how upset I would be about all of this. So, as others have mentioned on numerous occasions, we should try to buy the "real thing" and support the designers the best we can. And yes, that ruler is expensive so the pattern is "cheap" in comparison. Plus, think of all the beautiful gifts you can make for yourself and others from this one pattern!!!

Oh crap. Just realilzed I bought the 10* ruler instead of 9*. That shouldn't make too much of a dif right? Jut may make a larger thingee?
|
I was not familiar with the bing.com site - great examples and thank you for introducing me to the site.
|
Love the bing.com search engine, Bing is faster to type than google! ;+)

This is a gorgeous tr!! Questions tho: Who IS the designer? I've googled this and found a bunch of things and it seems like there are several different designers/sources for it. Is it: Spicy Spiral Table Runner, School House Quilts, by Patty Latourell? Ck'd a couple of other threads here and some time ago someone mentioned that there was a free pdf for the pattern with a template for the ruler in it on the Hancock's (not of Paducah) site but the url they gave wasn't good any longer. Finally found it on the site and it's: http://www.hancockfabrics.com/Quilti...1VVviewcat.htm about 2/3 down on the page--the Poppies pattern. I can't tell if it's for the 9 or 10 degree style but it looks pretty big. The pattern is not for a table runner but a quilt or wall hanging. Here's more info I found: Found a pattern here: http://phillipsfiberart.danemcoweb.c...p/product/STP/ A couple of more or less tutes: http://quilt-knit-run-sew.blogspot.c...le-runner.html go to bottom of page and click on Newer Post and get Part 2. and: http://dianeloves2quilt.blogspot.com...le-runner.html And two of the other threads (there are more!) here about this: http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...22-t72829.html gives dimensions: The 10 degree ruler is 22.5 inches long, 1 inch wide at narrow end and 4 7/8 wide at bottom edge. these measurments include the 1/4 inch seam. hope this helps. 10-28-2010 http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...ry-t68251.html pics show diff betwn 9 and 10 degree rulers 10-04-10 |
Found a pattern here: http://phillipsfiberart.danemcoweb.c...p/product/STP/
You found the designer. It's Cheryl Phillips at Phillipsfiberart.com Fascinating patterns and if you are on her e-mail list, she has free ones occasionally. I think the free 12 degree table toppers are on the website. Spicy Spirals are addicting. You will get your money's worth out of the ruler - I paid $20 for my ruler and pattern together from her as a Christmas special 2 years ago. I think it shipped free, too. edit: I just went back and looked up that bing site. It's a little surprising to see your items on the web without knowing they are there. I realize as soon as a picture is posted, it's no longer my private picture, but I really don't like my granddaughters pictures on the back of my son's quilt on there. Grab my quilts and table runners if you want, but not my family's images. :hunf: |
The pattern I use is by School House Quilts, I highly recommend it (again, so much I purchased another copy to give away as a prize!).

Just to bring everyone up to date, I am Patty Latourell and the Spicy Spiral Table runner is my pattern, I have no web site and no blog too busy quilting. Originally I was going to do more pattern, thats why the name School HOuse Quilts, but found there were too many with this same name and I got too busy with life to do more patterns. This is my only pattern, Cheryl Phillips carries it for me on her web site. You can use a 9 or 10 degree ruler, but it must be the longer version, its the only one Cheryl has on her site 22 1.2 inches in length, a new 9 shorter is out at 14 inches NOT ONG ENough without adding a template plastic to the end to extend it ( if you purchased the wrong length it can be extended). I self distribute the pattern wholesale.

Latpatt,
It is a shame that you don't have time to design more patterns. Your Spicy Spiral table runner is genius! What a wonderful pattern! Can you tell us what the difference is when you use a 9* or a 10* ruler? Which one makes it the way your sample on your design is? Hope some day I hope you get the time to use your wonderful talents to create more patterns, Judy |
I bought a package of 3 wedge rulers at the quilt show in Hampton .. I haven't gotten around to using them yet. Of course. But I got the home and thought there was something wrong with my set so went back and the lady at the booth was so nice. She showed me they were fine , how to use them and gave me a free pattern . There are some gorgeous patterns and I want to make them all. LOL

latpatt, Nice to see that you are still on and reading the QB. Hope you are enjoying your days in CA and Canada. I still love your pattern and it seems others do also. I hope that there will be a sudden run on buying your pattern due to the chatter on the QB. Hope you are enjoying your busy quilting days.

WOW - thanks for all of the images!!! I do (of course) own this pattern and have the ruler - now to do it. YOu've provided lots of inspiration!
|
Looks like a real cute pattern for a square dance skirt! ! !
|
I have not actually seen one of these in person, but the pictures freak me out. Does anyone else feel like that about this pattern?
|
There were some instructions on allfreesewing.com
|
LadyE, I felt that way. I had been quilting less than a year when I made my first one, but I had paid for the pattern and ruler and was determined to use them. It was no problem. I just laid the wedges out in pairs as I cut them so I could just go down the row to sew them together. I didn't want to sew the SS and turn it, so I made narrow bias binding which I like. I've only made three, but I have fabric for three more.

Patty Latorell of School House Quilts
I am trying to find the contact details for Patty Latourell of School House Quilts in relation to wholesale information on her fantastic pattern. Hope to speak with her or via email as I do not live in USA.
