I agree with the other quilt members, use what you have and piece them. The seams will be hardly noticeable.
Another vote with everyone else, seams in borders are done all the time, it doesn't matter. And if you love the fabric that much, make yourself something with the extra yardage. You deserve it!
I piece my borders and it's not noticeable. I would keep the yardage you just bought and use it to make something special for yourself!
I splice by mitering only if it is a print, where the seams would not show so easily, but cut the long way if the fabric is a solid color.
no one - i mean no one - who doesn't quilt would EVER think twice about whether or not the border was spliced.
carry on and save that yardage for your good self! aileen |
I always join my borders and they look fine. Call me cheap but can't see wasting fabric and money as expensive as it is.
I too always piece my borders - I will consider whether the seam will blend better if it is done straight or on the diagonal, which depends on the pattern on the fabric (and 9 times out of 10 straight is best or just as good as diagonal, so why waste fabric).
So I say use what you have prepped already and plan something fabulous for your bonus fabric! |
I would go with what you have. Pieced borders are usually a necessity with a larger quilt and after it is quilted, there shouldn't be a lot of stress on that seam

Join your long borders. Believe it, or not, it truly won't be that noticeable. Use the new yardage you bought for another project.
