split 9 patch
I am thinking of making a split 9 patch out of various shades of purple....5 darks and 4 lights. Has anyone done a split 9 patch in dark and light shades of the same color? How did it turn out? Did you like it? I have a great deal of trouble visualizing finished quilts.
I am going to cut some strips and lay them together on my design wall, but even that is just sort of helpful. I made one two years ago with brown and cream and really liked it. I want to like this one just as much. So, what do you think? I have also thought of using whites as my light instead of light purple. Dina |
It's all about value.
That's what will make the quilt successful. As long as you have contrast, it doesn't matter if it's monochromatic or real scrappy or controlled scrappy or two-colored. The light purple vs. white choice is a purely personal aesthetic one. Yours to make. |
It was easier to find pics of Log Cabins (which basically creates the same visual pattern of the split 9 patch block):
Here are some samples of different color/value combos: All purples: http://www.dorchesterlibrary.org/qui...pringfling.jpg http://www.longmeadowfarms.com/Log%20Cabin%20Parlor%20and%20Lap%20Quilts.htm Purple and cream: http://lazygallibamish2010.blogspot....log-cabin.html Purple and yellow: http://www.canstockphoto.com/quilt-l...n-9545727.html Purple and white: http://www.seesawdesigns.co.uk/quilts All appeal to different tastes. |
MTS, the sites you sent really helped! Thank you so much. I had searched for split 9 patch, but found nothing in purple. I hadn't thought of the log cabin, and those really helped me visualize it. Right now I am thinking of the white with purple or the yellow with purple. Thanks again!
