This is gorgeous!!!!!!
Supper job. You are doing great. Love the colors, pattern and your layout. Know what ever you do it will look just gorgeous. Your sister is going to love it also because you made it for her. BrendaK

Very pretty quilt. I agree with cross hatching.
Your top is terrific! I wish I could offer quilting suggestions, but I would rather piece than quilt. Your sister will be thrilled with whatever you decide.
Your fourth quilt is beautiful. I really like yellow and gold tones to go with the black/gray and white. As for quilting I think it would be stunning to let your pattern choice be showcased. If you use gray thread it will not show up areas that aren't perfect. If you can stitch in the ditch that would highlight the pattern. If you don't feel comfortable with that you could stitch a quarter of an inch on either side of the seam lines. That would look clean and complement the geometric lines of your quilt. You can use a walking foot to do that or use a regular foot. It appears that you are a real natural for becoming a great quilter. Enjoy the journey!

Woman...you are truly a quilter. Great quilt.

i LOVE THIS. SO PRETTY OVERALL AND LOVE THE COLORS. I'LL LEAVE THE QUILTING PART TO THOSE IN THE KNOW. THANKS FOR SHOWING.

*** Nice job *** |
Nice quilt. I'd use a nutural thread for quilting.
I agree that cross hatching would be the answer and since you did such a fantastic job on the top go with the orange. A gorgeous quilt, you should be very proud.
Only your 4th quilt? Well done. I can see you winning at shows in the near future. Your quilt is spectacular.
Great quilt I love everything about it. You have some great advise and ideas about quilting. Be sure to show us again once you get finished.

How ambitious, great job. Don't think I was as brave on my 4th quilt. Sometimes a slightly curved quilting line off-sets a very geometric pattern.

very very beautiful

wow that is a wonderful 4th quilt! love the colors and design ... I like the idea of a soft curvy quilt line if you can handle that on your machine ...
Love the quilt. What is the pattern?
Beautiful quilt! Congratulations! I love your color choices; the squares really pop against the black and white. Don't know what your backing is or how the orange thread would look on it. And though I fully understand your desire to use use orange thread (I'd be tempted, too!), personally, I'd quilt it in white, simply to be, as you say, safe. It will be gorgeous either way, though!

Your quilt is beautiful and great piecing.

I was searching for quilting ideas and came across this post. http://blog.petitdesignco.com/2012/1...-quilting.html
I plan to use some of these ideas for some of my quilts. |
Fourth quilt? Really you did a fantastic job on it, and I like the fabrics you chose with the unusual yellow and orange. I would check the batting I was going to use to see how far apart you can quilt, then I would stitch diagonal lines, intersecting between the yellow and orange along the block's lines, with the cross-hatching as this is a more modern quilt. It's also a lot easier to quilt that way, you can do half the quilt, then turn and do the other half without too much of the quilt being bunched up under the harp of your machine. I might use a cable for the borders, and you can get the rolls of pre-marked paper that has an adhesive edge to help it stick to the quilt. I've used those rolls on a number of quilts and I'm always pleased with the results. Great quilt. I might use a dark grey thread, or a unique variegated rayon thread for the quilting.

I agree with the comments made about using gray thread. There is also a green thread that is amazing for disappearing but I can't remember the color. If you have a stitch in the ditch foot that would help you if you go for the straight lines.
I'm trying a fusible batting for the first time and you need to quilt between 2 and 4 inches. I thought about stitching in the ditch but I pressed my seams open so that would make me nervous...
Do you have a walking foot? There was a blog posted here once "Thirty one days of walking foot quilting". Lots of easy, slightly curved ideas and even I could do them! I'm thinking the one named "waves" would look great on this.
That's very cute! I am learning late to love orange.
I'd do wavy lines with my walking foot. I'd use grey thread. |
Such a lovely palette you used, your quilt is spectacular. I think the orange thread for quilting would be perfect, I would do all over quilting(same pattern repeated all over the quilt) or stitch in the ditch.
I must say, you have an excellent teacher in yourself - your quilt is stunning!
Pretty quilt, great pattern!

Beautiful quilt! Since it is a more modern design, straight line vertical quilting about an inch apart would look great. Lately I have also seen several quilts with just vertical line quilting, but the lines were just slightly curvy in a random basis--but never crossing over each other-sometimes half inch apart and up to about two inches apart. This gives a Slightly softer look to a geometric pieced pattern..

Love your color choice...
You have done a great job on your quilt!
That is a beautiful quilt! Love the colors and the pattern. Awesome job!
I really like your fabric and color choices of your quilt. Thanks for sharing.
Love the quilt. Gray thread would be a good choice for thread. The idea about starting in the middle is one of the best. Middle one way and then the middle the next - if you are crossing stitching lines. Lots of basting - spray, pin or whatever you choose.
