Spool Size of Thread for My Machine
 

Someone may have posted this somewhere but I have yet to find it.

My question is not about type or brand of thread but size of spool/cone for certain model sewing machines. I have the Brother XL-3750 Sewing Machine. I would love to buy some of the bigger spools of thread from Connecting Threads but don't really know if my machine can handle them. Small spools of Coats and Clark are great but it's cheaper to buy the bigger spools. If anyone has the same machine and can tell me anything, I would really appreciate it. I have searched the net but have not found any info.

I just put the spool in a large coffee cup behind my machine and thread as normal.

Superior thread has come out with a new thread stand that is great! You can use regular or jumbo or whatever spool you want. You can use them vertically or horizontally. It is 24.95 but I think it is worth it. Check it out on their web site. Superiorthreads.com.

I use the large cones with a thread stand all the time. Works great.

You can use a thread stand which you can purchase anywhere. There are lots of various types from really expensive to cheap ones. Until you decide on which one to buy, you could always put the thread in a coffee cup and use a small safety pin taped to your machine as a guide. You thread the thread thru the little round end hole and then thru your normal machine thread guides. I did this for years before buying a thread stand. I use Connecting Threads larger spools all the time. Good luck.

My viking rep/teacher told me that with the larger spools just sit them on the table or in a cup. Also on Leah Day's site she say's that when FMQ and your good threads that never break start breaking; sit them on a stand or in a cup so that the come off of the spool better as well. There isn't a size limit.

Thank you so much for all the great help. After I originally posted, I found the other threads about this same thing. I just wasn't typing in the correct search words. Most of what I found was exactly what you wonderful quilters have told me. Thanks again and I can't wait to try out your ideas before buying a thread holder.
