I have spray basted my batting to the backing and the quilt top, and really like the results. The batting/backing combo is larger that the quilt top, and when I trim it to fit, I would like to save the extra backing. It will be wide enough for some narrow strips. I'm worried about the spray basting that is on the fabric. I probably won't use the strips for awhile. Should I hand wash the strips before I store them, to remove the basting spray? (I'm using a cotton quilting fabric for the backing, if that matters)
Thanks! |
I would wash them before storing. Not sure if hand washing will be enough to remove the basting spray, though. Worth a try.

I would wash them before using or storing. That basting spray is sticky stuff.

I was told to spray the batting, not the fabric. I would wash the fabric before storing. If it's a narrow strip, hand wash and spin in a salad spinner.

I havn't washed mine. So far no problems. I just fold it stickiness together. I have used the "scraps" in other quilts without any problem.

I've rinsed the backing strips in the sink and hung them to dry. It seemed to be enough. Good to know others are saving the backing strips, too! :)

i tape a strip of paper along the edge to keep as much spray off the edge of the backing as possible.
