What I would like to know about spray basting is if it is safe to use on baby quilts. Does anyone know if it causes allergic reactions?

I've used both 505 and Sullivan's and like them both. Have never done spray basting on anything larger than a throw. Only spray on the fabric, doing about 1/2 of the top at a time. I hold a piece of cardboard around the edges when spraying to prevent overspraying. Keep your windows open. I'd wash the baby quilt before giving away to get the chemicals out. Try it, you'll like it.

Just wash the quilt. It washes out.

Are any of you quilters using the spray baste method for hand quilted quilts? I think I only saw one comment here that led me to believe it would work for hand quilting projects.

I just spray it well and move on to another area and spray. i don't stay in one area too long,nor over spray. sort of like using hair spray liberally.

i love to use spray basting and i spray and pin on our pinic table outside

I always used to spray baste but now a large can of 505 here costs $35. I have completely switched to fusible batting and although is is more $, I actually save $ in the long run.

I put an old sheet on the wall and another on the floor for the oversray. This works great for me.

Note - If you use spray baste to hold down any templates for quilting (i.e. - acrylic templates) you will need to remove the spray baste from the templates with something like nail polish remover. Learned this the hard way ;-). Have fun!

I cannot remember who put the video up but I saw on YouTube someone recommended 505. I am fortunate to have an entire wall of a shop outside the house that I can pin old sheets on (newspaper on the floor) and spray away then leave. I may have read it in a book, sorry, don't remember. I have bought a can and am going to try it. I used some (from Hancock's) on a baby quilt and it worked great except I had to stop every few stitches and use the tweezers to get a glob off the needle. Other than that, no problem. I don't think the glue was interfering with my sewing, I think it was interfering with my OCD (obsessive, compulsive disorder. :-D
