I have never spray basted a quilt. I normally hand baste or pin baste. I am working on a King size dresden plate at the moment, and was thinking I would attempt spray basting. I'm sure this will take me atleast 4 months to quilt (by hand). If anyone has any stories about spray basting I would love to hear them. I'm wondering if it would still hold long enough to finish quilting it. Any tips on spray basting are appreciate as well

I spray baste and it works pretty well, someone on here got it too think and it made an oily spot that did not come out so be careful not to spray too heavy.

this is a topic in which i am also interested. one of my concerns is about overspray. also, will my needle become gooey when i am hand quilting?

I spray basted a quilt once to machine quilt and think I over sprayed it left the quilt with a wrinkled look that did not even come out with washing maybe it was what I used but it was recommended to me

I had the same experience as Dodie--possible overspraying and pulling apart to smoothe back down before machine quilting left wrinkles in the quilt. Perhaps, the spray works better on small smize projects. Any further suggestions? I'm afraid to try this again on a medium to large size quilt.

I've only used spray basting on small projects.

I tried it and didnt like how messy it was

I am in a group that makes quilts for people with cancer. We are using the Sulky KK2000 because it seems to be the most hypo-allegeric. So far we have spray basted at least 10 quilts, we only started using it recently. I recommend spraying in a open air area. You don't have to spray it thickly just a bit like you would use to hold hair in place. We hand quilt everything and have never found a stickly residue on our needles. This particular spray is considered temporary, but lasts us for over a month. I don't know if it lasts longer as we are usually finished quilting it by then, we do simple designs.

I use it all the time and have used several different brands. Just make sure you spray your batting and not quilt top. That should elimnate any staining and try to spray lightly. It holds well for me. Good luck :!:

I don't like the smell......not good for you toxic so I guess keep it to a minimum........or in a well ventilated area
