So what's the difference bewteen starch and sizing. I was told not to use sizing on my quilts. how come?

hmross 05-03-2011 02:28 PM

The reason for putting in a fridge was if you didn't get them all done it kept them from souring before you got back to them. Only 65 and I've done it all myself.

I buy 1/2 gal of Sta-Flo at walmart and mix with half water and put in a spray bottle. It works good.

You can buy it Walmart. I'll have try the dollar tree.

Try Sta-flo from WM.

I found "Niagra non-aerosol spray starch" @ Walmart. It has a sprayer nozzle on top. And is non-aerosol so you don't loose the pressure in the can. And it does say original on the can. It works great for me.

Should be are the important words here. None to be found at Albertson's where I shop.

I bought the same item [as you described above] and really like it and was wondering if I could refill it with the mixture of liquid starch & water. Sounds like I can, which is music to my ears!
Very useful postings. Thanks, everyone.

I have been making my own pressing spray.

2 cups distilled water (guess boiled would do)
2 oz rubbing alcohol
6 -12 drops of essential oil (sweetpea or lavender my favs)
1/3 cup liquid starch.
Put in spray bottle. Shake before each use.

I like this a lot.

Anybody know where I can buy the old fashioned kind of starch? Or even the old Niagara Spray Starch? All I can find is that Magic Sizing stuff.

Well I have hear/read that you should use Magic Sizing and NOT the Niagara starch. The best thing to use is "Best Press" try it and you will wonder how you pieced quilts without it. IMHO. lol

Thanks for the memories, my grandmother would wash on Monday and iron on Tuesday. She would pull the wash out and have her starch ready in a bowl, then would put statch what she wanted and then hang them to dry... then she would sprinkle them and they would sit over night... they always looks sooo crips and smell sooo good.

I buy Sta-flow at the commissary and use it in the washing machine.
