I have just made some of these bowls and used flannel for the batting. It worked very well. Used scrapes for the outsides. I used it for a Demo at our Quilt Camp and it was a great success.

I think this may be what you're talking about. I've seen them made to hold candy, napkins, jewelry, even a casserole. You just alter the size of the square or rectangle you start with. They are very simple and pretty.

I love making these....made coasters to go inside these also. I had no pattern but seen one somewhere and went home to put it together...I see Amandagmama? has a tute on it.
