Square vs Rectangle quilts
 

I'm addicted to looking at quilts on-line and yes in mag and books. I've noticed for a LONG time there are beautiful square quilts. Love the patterns but my body is not square, at least not yet. I know some patterns are best suited to square layouts and would be difficult to make it rectangle. Our bed is a square queen but all the quilts I make for us are rectangle. Just a rant. Our bed is a King, which is almost square. I've made 3 or 4 quilts for it over the years. I agree that some patterns lend themselves to be square. In my opinion all quilts are wonderful :)

WE have a King size bed and I will make close to square quilts for our bed. I rarely use a pattern and design my own quilts. So I make blocks until the top reaches the size I want for what ever I am doing. Be it a bed quilt or a wall hanging. I recently decided I needed to start making smaller quilts so right now I am on a Full size rectangle binge. I still find myself leaning toward rectangle quilts with smaller quilts. The bigger they are the more square they become.

Most of my quilts are square. I hate having to figure out which way the

I also prefer square quilts. They fit my beds better and can be turned any which way. But the beauty of making your own quilts is that you have complete control over the size and shape.

I prefer square quilts for any bed over a twin size. To me a quilt is not a bedspread that falls over the sides of the bed. I use a lightweight bed covering that fits the bed the way I want it to and put a quilt on top of it. Some rectangle quilts I have I turn them sideways so they will overhang on the bed. It depends on the look I want for the room at the time.

I try to think of the recipient when I decide on shape and size. My baby quilts are mostly square. Military - slim twin to fit on a bunk. Wedding - usually a large rectangle to use as a couch throw, but big enough for two. The only quilt I'm making for me is a rectangular Double Irish Chain. If I ever make one for my bed, it will be square for my queen size bed with a thick mattress.
I have a king size being FMQ - it's not going well with my little machine. It's a wedding quilt for my son. I have one being pieced (another wedding) that is growing. I think I will downsize it while I can.

I agree with you about bedspreads and quilts.

I make some square and some rectangle. I made a quilt for our king size bed and it fits pretty good and it is 100x100.
