Squaring up precut fabric blocks

I am currently working on two Moda quilts using precuts:

Would you square up your blocks knowing that it will take away from your pattern or just not square up your blocks? If I was using fabric off the bolt I would just put on an extra 1/2 inch so I can square them up to the correct size but I can't really do that with precuts...

I use pre-cuts all the time - I would not worry about squaring them up before using them - if your overall blocks look a little wonky then you could do some trimming - but I love pre-cuts and use them all the time - but I only purchase Moda, Riley Blake or Robert Kaufman pre-cuts - these are the only ones I use and never had a problem. Also, the pattern is specifically written for those pre-cuts and I think you will be happy using them right out of the box - its really the advantage to pre-cuts - they should be ready to go.

is it your blocks you made that you need to square up? it wouldn't hurt to trim maybe 1/8 th off a side or two if necessary. when ever you trim though, you must always make sure you don't cut off too much. you want the right size of block. can you tell us more or post a photo?

Yes I mean square up the blocks before you sew them into rows. I normally always square them up cause my blocks are always a little wonky. I don't have pics to post because I'm not done with any blocks yet.

well, looking at the patterns. I don't see any big problem trimming might do. just trim after making sure you still have the full size of your blocks under the ruler. in other words, don't short yourself. I've done that! trim on each side.
have fun and show us when done!!

If they need squaring up to keep your design straight I would do so. If you are sewing some precursor into blocks, the blocks may need a little squaring up too. Just don't overdo the trimming.
