I have hardwood floors and cannot come up with anything that will keep a presser foot in place. I have tried the sta-pedal units and non-slip rubberized rolls cut into appropriate sized pieces. They all just slide on the hardwood. I am reluctant to stick anything on the floor for fear of damaging the finish. Has anyone solved this problem?

I use kitchen drawer liner. I've got laminate in my house, but when I was living with my mom she had hardwood and the liner worked just fine for me.

I too use the rubber shelf liner for my FOOT PEDAL. The presser foot is where your needle goes up and down

You mean the foot pedal? My ironing board cover came with a knobby silcone rectangle for the iron to sit on. I ripped it off and use it on the floor to put my foot pedal on to keep it from sliding around when I sew. I have laminate flooring in the sewing room.

Thanks for the reply. The rubber shelf liner is what I was trying to describe. That has not worked for me.

Have you tried dusting the floor under the shelf liner? I'm not disparaging your housekeeping skills, I promise! But even a small amount of dust on the floor will reduce the grip.
If that still doesn't work, a lot of stores sell silicone hot pads in the kitchenware section. That might work like eastermarie's iron rest. |
I use car floor mats on my hardwood floors work very well

LOL you are right about the dust. We don't always realize how much "dust" is created by fabrics shedding. But there always seems to be a thin layer of white dust in the sewing room. |
I use a small rubber backed bathroom rug. Works great on my wood floors. Rubber holds the rug in place, pile holds the pedal in place.

One friend solved this by putting her pedal upside down. It worked. Felt awkward at first. But, it worked.
