I have fallen in love with the SnW kaleidoscope looking quilt blocks. Then I bought a mirror that shows me what the pattern would be ....Ohhhh...I'm a gonner now!
I have searched the net and found some resources, but feel this is something I should not try without instructions. Can anyone recommend a good book to buy. I am going to check with my Guild and LQS to see what resources they have for me. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have the first stack n whack book that came out and I found it very helpful. Once you make one, you can't stop! Have fun!

Whats that I said? I returned with the cloth and would be interested in info or books too. YET another would be project on my list..... :?

The original Stack and Whack book would be the best place to start :D:D:D It does a wonderful job of explaining the blocks, start to finish.
If you have any questions as you go along, you know we will gladly help :D:D:D

You can get Magic Stack & Whack Quilts by Bethany S. Reynolds at a discount from www.amazon.com. Excellent book.

I just went on my Guild's web site and the Stack n Whack lady, Bethany Reynolds, will be at our Guild meeting in November!!! She is also doing a 2-day workshop (which DH just agreed is my Bday present!) and a one day class! I'm beside myself!!

Check your local library, if the book is in their "system" they can get it for you. More $$ for fabric! YAY!

look at the library first! ours has the first book.

I agree with those posting to try the original first.
there may still be a single pattern available for this one.
After that you can get the book with variations if you are still "hooked" which you will be.

after you make one you will discover that:

1. you will have another cut to start sewing
2. another group of fabrics lined up to begin
3. any number of pieces of fabric to "do later"
4. your thinking will be impaired every time you go to a quilt shop to the point you can't see any other fabric than stack-n-whack prints.

For the original it takes 8 repeats or about 6.5 yds and about 4.5 yds for the background and borders.
Other designs require less repeats. But all of them are based on number of repeats down the edge of the fabric. You can't use the same motif from any other place in the quilt. These can be used for other sets of blocks beyone the 8.

I love Stack and Whack. I used to teach the class when I worked at the LQS. It is so much fun to see all the different designs that can come from one piece of fabric. The blocks themselves are not hard to stitch. It's all in the cutting of the fabric. www.bethanyreynolds.com also has some great ideas and wonderful charts on her "cool stuff" page. She give directions to make the pinwheel block in miniture and also gives the setting triangles for many different blocks sizes. Her web site is very interesting.

you can make your own mirror and it might be less expensive.
Go to Home store and get two mirror tiles and some duck tape. Hinge them together and you have a good mirror for viewing.
