Stack & Whack Wonky blocks - How to quilt?

1 Attachment(s)
I was thinking of just SID so that the design will show on the back. But also thought something curvy would soften the sharp angles... but do I really want to soften it? After all, the wonky angles are the main focus of the pattern, right? Can you tell that I'm conflicted??? LOL Any and all thoughts are gratefully accepted. Thanks [the colors are not as bright as shown]

I have never seen anything like this. I have just been looking at it for the longest time enjoying it. Sorry no help on the quilting.

bobbieking 03-23-2012 02:44 AM

I'm not too familiar with quilting designs but I think a medium meander would do. Will not over power your hard work. Just a thought. Love the top and color combo.

wolph33 03-23-2012 03:12 AM

love the top.the pattern is so crisp and bold that quilting will not mask it.Can't wait to see what you do to it-when it doubt stipple it

JENNR8R 03-23-2012 03:34 AM

How about a couple rows of echoing each shape?

Blinkokr 03-23-2012 04:39 AM

Just neat as can be, great job, thank you for sharing, I like it
Have a Blessed day

I would also suggest echo shadowing

Quiltngolfer 03-23-2012 05:53 AM

I agree with the echo quilting. I think that would work nicely for this pattern. Cute!

bjiwami 03-23-2012 06:00 AM

I would use a large, sharp pointed zigzag, all over meander to keep with the wonky edge design theme!

Either this suggestion or an all over meander but wonkier! LOL If that makes any sense. Interesting quilt!

Really neat quilt, I think echo would look good!

sengell 03-23-2012 07:21 AM

Where did you find this pattern........this would be great for my son.

Tartan 03-23-2012 07:30 AM

I think the spiral out from the center would be great. Instead of doing circles out though I would do a straight line spiral to stay with the anglular look. I would start in the center of the center blocks and stitch straight to the center of each wall on the center block. I would move out from there to the center of each outer block wall until each block is quilted. It will look great whatever design you decide on. Great quilt top!

this is a link that was posted here a couple of weeks ago. she didn't put sashing... her blocks look good without the sashing. I thought mine looked better with the sashing :)

oops, the link http://www.fromthebluechair.com/2010...-tutorial.html

i love all of the suggestions so far... some i would never have thought of. thanks for the input from all of you. this board is the greatest

Sandy64 03-23-2012 09:09 AM

Great quilt. If it were mine, I would do a zig zag medium fill stitching in the back ground of each square and outline each inside shape. Sandy 64

rosealee 03-23-2012 09:22 AM

I agree, stipple it.

Wonky away and be sure to show us your final product!

n2scraplvr 03-23-2012 04:56 PM

I love wonky. I love stippling. They'll look good together! Great quilt!

charismah 03-23-2012 05:17 PM

I LOVE the modern look of this quilt. I immediatly thought of a Zig-zag like some of the others suggested...that would keep the sharp look and keep with the modern look. Sometimes on my own personal quilts I don't like to soften the lines either...I think sometimes it's good to keep them sharp. That's just my opinion.

RedGarnet222 03-23-2012 05:32 PM

I would suppose it would depend on who it is for. If it is for a guy, I would say wavy lines (kinda like a brook). But, if it is for a woman, I would say concentric circles would be wonderful.

carolynjo 03-24-2012 07:39 AM

I agree with echo quilting to reinforce an already sharp quilt.

playswithcolor 03-24-2012 08:20 AM

Maybe celebrate it's wonkyness (is that a word?). Echo quilt the shapes?

Jammin' Jane 03-24-2012 05:09 PM

SID would be great! Love it! :)

callen 03-25-2012 05:00 AM

I vote for echo quilting !!

ItsJustMe 03-25-2012 06:05 AM

Love it! Unique and unusual. I'd do echo.

solstice3 03-25-2012 06:56 AM

what an unusual design.

wildyard 03-25-2012 07:21 AM

I would do one outline row around each seam and in the border. Probably using my quarter inch foot. My DGD wants an all plaid quilt and I am thinking this might be a great pattern for that! I love it!

Greenheron 03-25-2012 08:29 AM

Maybe an angular spiral echo in each of the center blocks, no quilting in the middle colors and then echo fill the larger section of each block. Celebrate the geometry!

Grandma Peg 03-25-2012 08:36 AM

Really like your quilt, good luck quilting it.

kwiltkrazy 03-25-2012 03:24 PM

I like the idea of the angular spiral, but I think it would look great with concentric feathers, one built for each shape in the block, it would soften yet add extreme interest into the blcks. The quilt is beautiful, no matter what you do to it, it has a strong personality already, and will stand on that.

hperttula123 03-25-2012 04:20 PM

I love that pattern. I just seen that one facebook( I think it was one of my friends that posted a tute for it). I love how bold it is. :)
